We’re proud to share a new publication highlighting the USAID Uganda Family Planning Activity's (USAID/FPA) successful implementation of the Beyond Bias approach as part of efforts to expand access to quality health services for all. From 2022 to 2024, Beyond Bias addressed provider bias in 11 districts across Uganda. This project ensured 15-24 year olds received empathetic, nonjudgmental counseling and access to a full range of contraceptive methods, regardless of marital status or parity. The results are clear: • Increased provider capacity: Qualitative data suggests providers felt more equipped to deliver youth responsive services. • Shifting mindsets: One midwife shared that Beyond Bias, "has transformed our approach. Now, adolescents receive priority counseling and suitable methods." • Supporting young people: Beyond Bias enabled young people to seek and access essential sexual and reproductive health information and services. The new publication, "Addressing Provider Bias to Deliver Quality Sexual and Reproductive Health Information and Services to Young People," delves deeper into this success story, offering key lessons and recommendations for implementing Beyond Bias and similar interventions and effectively addressing provider bias to improve youth access to sexual and reproductive health services. https://lnkd.in/eWAYR84Z #PathfinderUganda #BeyondBias #SRHR Daniele Nyirandutiye Dr. Richard Kabanda, PhD, MPH, MBA, FAIPH RITAH WADDIMBA Ministry of Health - Uganda Pride Ashaba Asiimwe Albert Suzanne Atim Courtney L. Read our latest publication: Between Cultures and Traditions: A qualitative investigation of sexual and reproductive health experiences of immigrant adolescents in Canada, published in Culture, Health & Sexuality. Our study explored the SRH experiences of immigrant adolescents in the context of their cultural and religious perspectives. The stigma surrounding sexual health in immigrant households, coupled with parental discomfort and lack of openness to discuss SRH matters, hinder effective communication and support for adolescents. Our findings suggest leveraging technology to develop evidence-based, smart, and accessible solutions catered to the needs of immigrant adolescents. Read our full article: https://lnkd.in/dEidUA6y

#Periods are normal, but more often, this natural and healthy part of life is seen as shameful and dirty. In South Sudan 60% of girls skip school for 4 to 8 days during their menstrual periods which affects their grades and education in general. Ahead of the Menstrual Health Day, We recognize efforts of young girls like Lina Nyok who has chosen to study Public health at the university so she can help young girls easily access correct information on sexual reproductive health and rights especially on menstrual health. #MHDay2024 #EndPeriodStigma

Enhancing sexual health within rural populations is of paramount importance, given the distinct obstacles these regions encounter. Our initiatives have included plans to partner with local health authorities, influential community figures, and the people directly impacted to develop enduring, non-discriminatory sexual and reproductive health (SRH) initiatives. By equipping rural communities with the necessary information and tools, we are facilitating significant progress in advancing sexual and reproductive health for everyone #sexualreproductivehealth

Today, on Sexual Health Day, let's focus on the important connection between healthy relationships and reproductive health. When relationships are based on mutual respect and consent, they contribute to emotional well-being and physical health, reducing the risk of reproductive tract infections (RTIs). It's crucial to recognize that forced relationships can harm individuals both emotionally and physically, making them more susceptible to infections and risky sexual practices. At Disinfect HER Initiative, we advocate for every woman and girl to have a voice in their relationships and to prioritize their well-being. We believe that healthy, consensual relationships are essential for protecting sexual and reproductive health. They enable people to make informed decisions about their bodies, practice safe behaviours, and minimize the risk of RTIs. Let's commit to promoting positive, respectful, and consensual relationships that safeguard and improve our sexual and reproductive health. Please share this message to raise awareness, and let's collaborate to build a world where every relationship is a healthy one. #SexualHealthDay #DisinfectHER #HealthyRelationships #ReproductiveHealth #EndRTIs #EmpowerWomen

The authors of this article discuss the evolution of FP2020 and FP2030 country commitments on the needs of adolescents and youth sexual and reproductive health. While FP2030 commitments better articulate strategies and activities to reach adolescents and youth with family planning (FP) information and services compared to FP2020 commitments, gaps remain. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, countries should continue to invest in creating and funding comprehensive FP commitments that meet the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents and youth. Proud to have contributed to the "Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in Ethiopia and Rwanda: A Qualitative Exploration of the Role of Social Norms" study. Findings highlighted that: In both Ethiopia and Rwanda, adolescent girls’ needs for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information remain largely unmet; they generally receive only partial (and often inaccurate) knowledge based on information they get from their peers.
