🔋 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Countdown Initiated 🔋
Starting August 18, 2024, significant new obligations will come into effect for batteries and accumulators placed on the market within the European Union. Here's what you need to know:
• 𝐂𝐄 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: All batteries must have undergone a conformity assessment procedure and must bear the CE marking.
• 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: New limits will apply, especially for device batteries.
• 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: The safety of battery energy storage systems, such as those used in domestic photovoltaic installations, must be proven and documented.
• 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Battery management systems will now need to include parameters to assess the aging state and expected lifespan.
• 𝐔𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Batteries must come with usage instructions and safety information.
These measures, aimed at enhancing battery safety and sustainability and are important for the production , mark the beginning of a series of obligations that will gradually intensify.
On August 18, 2025, the current battery waste law and directive will be replaced by the new Battery Regulation 2023/1542 in relation to the Extended Producer Responsibility requirements. This Regulation applies directly to each company in each Member State of the European Union.
For professionals and businesses in the sector, it is crucial to prepare for these changes now and the next 12 months to ensure a smooth transition.
PV CYCLE will be back with more details on this new Regulation the coming weeks and months.
