The lab is known for its advanced research in applying physical chemistry to formulations and materials, bringing new technologies to market in a wide range of sectors, including #agriculture, #automotive, #aeronautics, #construction, #healthcare, #electronics and the #environment. If exploration were a sport, winning would require strong collaboration between different teams and we are delighted to partner with CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique, Université de Bordeaux, Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and local authorities to support the next generation of promising scientists. On that note, the LOF is also contributing to our Climate Impulse partnership by creating the next generation materials for the first non-stop flight around the world in a #greenhydrogen-powered airplane… with Bertrand Piccard, the grandson of Auguste Piccard! So as you can see, exploration is a sport we are in to WIN! 🎉As we approach the end of 2024, BioLaMer celebrates an eventful year of innovation🌟, sustainability🍃, and progress📈 in biopolymer production. On this festive season, we reflect on the collective journey and what our project demonstrates towards creating a greener future by transforming unavoidable food waste into valuable biopolymers and bioplastics through a Black Soldier Fly larvae🐛route. 🚀2024 Highlights; 👉 Two of the innovations from our project have been recognized by the EIC  Innovation Radar. 👉 Won two best scientific poster awards for poster presentations at different conferences. 👉 Hosted workshops, public events, and participated in various dissemination activities to amplify the impact of the project. 👉 Conducted interviews with bioplastics professionals and the public to gain insights on the perception of bioplastics. 👉 Two intellectual properties identified and are currently in the patenting stage. 👉 Productive engagements with Project Officer, Scientific Innovation Advisory Board members and Consortium Partners. A huge thanks🙏 to our consortium members for their dedication and innovative contributions throughout the year. On November 14, our colleague Zainab Ul Kausar, PhD candidate at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), a consortium partner in the VIVALDI project, presented her research at #VEUS2024, UAB’s science outreach event. In a 10-minute talk titled “Transforming CO₂: From Waste to Resource”, Zainab introduced part of her innovative work within the VIVALDI project. She showcased how science can unlock CO₂’s potential, turning it from a waste product into a valuable resource for producing sustainable bioplastics. While industrial application remains a challenge for the future, this research marks an exciting step toward a greener, more sustainable world. 🌱 We’re proud to see the VIVALDI project featured in a platform that encourages critical thinking and fosters a connection between science and society. The "Synbio and New Materials" panel discussion took place in the morning, featuring exciting startups on stage : Jacob Nathan, Epoch Biodesign Francis Field,  Searo Labs Jacqueline Ros Amable, Matereal Selcuk Aslan, baCta The panel was led by the excellent moderator Sadia Nowshin, of Sifted Here are some key takeaways: 𝗕𝗶𝗼-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Customer focus is shifting from the environmental impact of materials to potential health risks. The discussion at Hack Summit Lausanne highlights a growing concern about microplastics and chemicals in existing materials. 🚀 At the invitation of the Zukunftsagentur Rheinisches Revier GmbH, the two new graduate clusters AUFBRUCH and Circular E-Cars met for the first time, presentes their approaches, and discussed potential synergies. Both projects were launched this year as part of the structural change in the Rhine region. While AUFBRUCH - Graduate Cluster is likely to be familiar to the inclined reader, Circular E-Cars will focus on making e-cars recyclable in the coming years and establishing the corresponding economic processes. To this end, the 22 doctoral students will work closely with local companies. 🚗♻️ The round was completed by the bioeconomy flagship project Bio4MatPro which has been researching the linking of biotechnology with production technology for several years 🧬🏭.
