We’re doing things a bit differently! For the past 2 years, Charles and I have been running our free 8-week Strength and Wellbeing Course. We’ve welcomed amazing guys through our doors, introducing them to lifting and running workshops on a wide range of wellbeing themes. Two years ago, we dreamed of having more time to do even more for our community. The reality is, with day jobs, families, and other commitments, we’re stretched thin. So… we’re changing it up. Instead of the 8-week course, we’re now running ongoing sessions open to men who could benefit from a bit of community and learning how to better look after themselves. • Weekly Gym Sessions @ Vale Community Fitness: Learn new movements and lifts, get a little sweat on, and build confidence in the gym. • Weekly Meet-Ups @ The Bridge Between: Covering a whole range of health and wellbeing topics in a relaxed, supportive setting. I truly believe that for the health and wellbeing of our sons, fathers, and brothers, learning, moving, and building a supportive community is the best medicine. A huge thank you to Lotto Awards, Glamorgan Voluntary Services, and the Millennium Stadium Community Trust for supporting us during these incredible first two years. Special thanks to everyone who donated to our work and backed our annual challenges (Pen Y Fan to Snowdon in 2023, and Cardiff Bay to Pen Y Fan in 2024). This funding ensures we can keep doing what we’re doing. If you’re interested in popping down, just get in touch. Link in bio. Let’s keep lifting, learning, and growing together. 💪 . . . #mensmentalhealth #breakthestigma #mentalhealthawareness #strength #resilience #wellbeing #selfhelp #communitysupport #mentalhealthmatters #menshealth #fitnessandwellbeing #buildingcommunity #barry #wales #mentalwellbeing #supportmen #healthandwellbeing @nationallotterygoodcauses @valecommunityfitness

🏃♂️🚴♀️ Let's Encourage More of This: It's common to see people apologising for personal posts about their charity runs or cycling events. But shouldn't we encourage these posts? Why? Because they promote good wellbeing, something that's crucial for anyone, especially those working in the legal profession. As legal professionals, we often find ourselves in high-pressure environments, dealing with complex cases and tight deadlines. In the midst of all this, taking care of our physical and mental health tends to take a backseat. But it shouldn't. Regular exercise isn't just about staying fit; it's about maintaining mental clarity, reducing stress, and boosting productivity; these benefits are invaluable. So, next time you see a colleague posting about their charity run or cycling event, give them a thumbs up. Encourage them. And most importantly, join in. Let's prioritise our wellbeing, together. #WellbeingMatters #WellnessWednesday #HealthyLegalMind #LegalProfessionals #Wellness #LegalCommunity #FitnessForLawyers #HealthyHabits #WorkLifeBalance #LegalMindset #HealthyLawyers #WellnessInLaw #ExerciseIsKey #LegalFitnessChallenge #LegalLifeBalance

Walking is magic. We all know it. Well it must be. How can one simple thing provide so many benefits, including for health and wellbeing? And the evidence agrees. Though, with such a focus on health and wellbeing, and these outcomes being targeted at a particular section of the population, is there a risk of over medicalisation and marginalising the very people we want to reach? Do I need to be unwell to attend a health walk? Do I need to be struggling with mental health to join a wellbeing walk? Where is the 'spirit of adventure' which is levied at the rest of the recreational walking population? Why is the short, easy and accessible end of the walking spectrum largely ignored by the outdoor industries and heavily serviced by charities and community organisations? The above, and five reflections from developing a new (coming soon) walking programme, are discussed in this article on Walking Pace. https://lnkd.in/e8VqjN2Z

Of the surveyed participants, 81.8 per cent did not meet the national exercise requirements, with most of their exercise being attributed to incidental activity, such as walking to public transport stations and food establishments. The main barriers to physical activity cited were lack of time and fatigue, especially after a long work day. Instead, people chose to spend the evening socialising with friends, watching television and scrolling the internet. We should really highlight to young and healthy people that walking is not a form of exercise. My cardiologist said so too! It’s a form of physical activity. Humans are made to walk. Some is better than nothing. Is it really the lack of time or the physical fatigue and priorities in life? Exercise, running, always recharges me after a long day at work. It’s a personal symbol of the end of my work day and relaxation starts. How do you find your middle ground? Fitness fanatic or couch potato? Millennials need to find a middle ground in exercise https://lnkd.in/dSK_WvTP

Celebrating Wellness and Growth with WINGS As we close out the year, I reflect with immense gratitude on the journey of WINGS and its impact on our community. One of the community project, Successful Ageing, (video below) holds a special place in my heart. It honors the unsung heroes—the first generation who migrated to the UK, contributing immensely to its economy while paving the way for a second generation of professionals and successful entrepreneurs. Sutton Coldfield Charitable Trust gave me the opportunity to create a space for this small community in Sutton Coldfield to connect, beat loneliness and bring shift in lifestyle for a healthier and happier progressive years. WINGS is serving the community through Funders as wings is more than just an acronym or a concept. It’s a movement—one rooted in Wellness, Inspiration, Growth, and Self-leadership. This year, we’ve celebrated many incredible moments: 🌟 Empowering individuals to embrace their personal growth journeys. 🌟 Strengthening bonds within communities through shared values and understanding. 🌟 Witnessing the transformative power of resilience and mindfulness in action. These stories remind us of the purpose behind WINGS: To uplift one another, create spaces for connection and healing, and champion wellness as a foundation for thriving lives and communities. As we celebrate this journey together, I encourage you to reflect: How can we continue to integrate the spirit of WINGS into our personal lives, families, and professional spaces? What can we do to ensure our communities continue to flourish? To everyone who has been part of this journey—thank you. Let’s keep soaring together, creating a brighter, more connected future. #WINGS #CommunityWellness #SuccessfulAgeing #GrowthMindset #Leadership #Celebration

With the NHS currently headline news following the Darzi report, our very own Dr Eidn Mahmoudzadeh wrote an article for Personnel Today about a significant recent milestone as NHS England and NHS Charities Together committed £16m of funding to wellbeing programmes for its workforce. As the sixth biggest employer in the world, the NHS recognises the need to invest in the health and wellbeing of staff, and is a well-timed reminder that employers across all sectors should be investing in the same way. With £40 billion a year (equivalent to 1.86% GDP) in economic losses associated with insufficient sleep, right now is the time to address this. On Sunday, I rode 54 miles from London to Brighton with 40 of my colleagues from Sky's Consumer Group and more than 12000 other cyclists, through which I raised £1.3k for Mind. The day concluded a year-long project of mine, Miles for Mind, which has been my biggest personal and professional achievement to date. Alongside the cycle, the Miles for Mind initiative also involved a 15km walk/run in May during Mental Health Awareness Week that 400 members of Sky took part in. On a personal level, the initiative has brought together two of my passions. The first of these is sports/exercise. As a keen triathlete taking on my first Half Ironman in a week, I am always looking for ways to get more people active. The second of these is mental health, having completed my Mental Health First Aid Training last Summer. Physical activity has been shown to improve mental health, hence the initiative aimed to improve mental health at Sky. Moreover, as a collective, we have raised over £40k for Mind through the initiative, which will support mental health all around the UK. On a professional level, organising this initiative has hugely expanded my skillset. The process started by networking with other members of the business to obtain ideas and recommendations. Next, I formed a team with 5 other graduates, who I would lead and work with over the following months. Together, we built a business case that we pitched to senior members of the business to request funding. After getting approval came the planning of the events - working with several internal and external stakeholders, including Mind, Extreme Energy and Sky's internal events, security, creative, finance, legal and PR teams - and creating an internal communications strategy to engage colleagues, which was a success as we filled all of the available spaces across both events. A massive thank you again to everyone who worked on this project! To celebrate everyone who took part in Miles for Mind, we have created a short video, which I have a short cameo in, so please have a watch! You can find information and support from Mind here: https://lnkd.in/eU2MZ8mi
