Building the skills we’ll need for our clean energy future starts early. That’s why we’ve teamed up with CQUniversity and ACCIONA AU & NZ to create online micro-credential programs for secondary school students. These programs, developed throughout 2023/24, are designed to equip students with the STEM skills they’ll need to thrive in the emerging hydrogen industry. By fostering strong industry-school connections, we’re not just preparing students for the workforce – we’re ensuring that our communities and future generations are ready to benefit from Queensland’s clean energy future. Together, we’re fuelling a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/g-YmwAwZ

What would be your ideal career choice on leaving school…. 4,000 young people said to BBC Bitesize that the top choices are perhaps predictable and attractive, but great to see “Construction” making a top-ten entry! If we are going to build (and retrofit) the sustainable and affordable homes and buildings we need, then this is great news. If we are to deliver the critical infrastructure and renewable energy that society will need then this can’t happen too soon. Looks like being happy and making a difference is what really matters… See: https://lnkd.in/evcSKXbk #sustainabilityleadership SDG 11

We are thrilled to say we have been awarded a grant of almost £13million to help hit our target of being net zero by 2030. The grant from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which is funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and delivered by Salix Finance Limited, will help towards the cost of installing around 1,300 new solar panels and connecting nine Coventry University buildings to the city's district energy network. It is hoped the proposals could reduce the Group’s carbon emissions by more than 1,300 tonnes per year – more than a fifth of its annual carbon emissions arising from the use of fossil fuels. Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, said: “For many years Coventry University has been taking positive strides towards our target of net zero and this grant from the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme will help us with the next steps along that road. “Sustainable development and social responsibility are central to what we stand for and we are working to speed up society’s journey to net zero and clean growth through our excellent research and education. "While we are rightly proud of the work and research we do to help tackle those issues nationally and internationally, being able to make a difference on our own campus is just as important.” Read more on this fantastic news here: https://bit.ly/3UWVQvQ

The #IRA has created over 330k jobs and counting, 75% of which won’t require a 4-year degree. In addition, clean energy jobs grew at twice the rate of overall US employment in 2023 and can result in an 8-19% income increase. And states and cities are primed for even more clean energy jobs, especially if they pursue the industries most feasible for their region. The Clean Growth Tool shows every metro area in the US which clean energy industries are most likely to thrive there, and where workforce gaps exist. https://lnkd.in/ew_Kk8YQ But who will fill those jobs? This is where workforce development, training, and apprenticeship programs come in that can train skilled workers in these growing industries, and why the US Climate Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of governors, just announced a commitment to support 1 million workers in completing Registered Apprenticeships by 2035, aiming to catalyze a diverse workforce and expand career pathways. By bringing all these elements together and aligning clean energy goals with workforce strategies, policymakers and economic development organizations can attract investment and create jobs, workers can develop stable career pathways and transform their lives, and clean energy project developers can utilize more federal incentives, allowing clean energy to be deployed faster. To learn more about why workforce programs are so important and why a cohesive strategy to align goals can maximize benefits, check out our latest article: https://lnkd.in/eBMtmZ58

Hey All - To those considering applying for funding to Round 2 of the Natural Carbon Solutions Innovation Challenge (PON 5180)- the website was just updated with slides from the July 23 webinar, the teaming list, and answers to some frequently asked questions. Again, we are looking for strong teams in these two challenge areas (Green Cooling & Carbon Negative Buildings) - that are ready to pilot new approaches to change business as usual. Take a look at the documents and see if your approach applies and let us know if you have questions. Part of our job is to help de-risk new thinking and new approaches that can overcome existing barriers to scalability and make an impact for NYS. Proving that you can overcome these barriers and scale your approach in NYS, has relevance across the world.

EXAMPLE OF AN UNIVERSITY ABLE TO REDUCE CARBON EMISSION The University of East London (UEL) has reduced its carbon emissions by 10 per cent from its 2020-21 baseline in phase one of its new net zero strategy. UEL is aiming to reach a net-zero by 2030 and is partnering with Siemens to develop and deliver the strategy, designed to improve energy efficiency and renewable integration. https://lnkd.in/dTFch7h7

Delighted to share our new open access book chapter 'Rethink Energy System Models to Support Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Just Transition Debates' as part of the Strengthening European Energy Policy book series. Thanks to Diana Süsser, Dr for leading the collaboration, and co-authors Will McDowall, Francesco Lombardi, Lukas Braunreiter & Stefan Bouzarovski for the engaging discussions that informed the chapter. To achieve the recommendation stated in the chapter title, we propose the following: > Policymakers should demand more open and inclusive energy modelling processes to ensure that stakeholders can meaningfully contribute to the process. > Policymakers should recognise the critical role of the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) in complementing energy modelling to receive a more holistic viewpoint on just pathways to climate neutrality. Both Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and SSH research is needed to transform our energy system to a just, climate-neutral future. >Policymakers should establish cross- and transdisciplinary debates for incorporating more diverse voices into energy modelling. https://lnkd.in/dDh_fFJw
