This week we are acknowledging Homelessness Week at Star to drive awareness of the impact of homelessness in our community. A big focus of this week is our Op Shop Fundraiser, with all proceeds raised going towards Sacred Heart Mission’s Women’s House. We are asking each student to donate two items of quality clothing, or one item of clothing and a warm blanket to support this initiative. These items are to be given to students' mentor teachers. We are aiming to conclude the donation drive on Monday July 29th. Alternatively you can donate directly to Sacred Heart Mission’s programs via their website: https://lnkd.in/gBmju-gY Domestic and family violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women, with 45% of all women and girls seeking assistance identifying family and domestic violence as a cause. In fact, 2 in 5 women (39%) have experienced violence since the age of 15. What these devastating statistics don’t tell us however, is how many women are slipping through service gaps. Since 2012-2023, the number of women and children experiencing homelessness has doubled. The Women’s House is a sanctuary for women in crisis. It is a safe space where they can share their experiences and receive person-centred, specific support.

Last night, I slept outside in freezing weather to raise awareness for youth experiencing homelessness. Covenant House Alaska provides shelter and support for 200 young people every night. Tragically, some who can’t access these services are forced to take desperate measures—like sleeping in cemeteries and using tombstones to shield themselves from the freezing winds. So far, we’ve raised nearly $10.5K toward our $15K goal, and I want to thank everyone who has already generously donated. Your support means so much and is making a real difference. Please consider donating through https://lnkd.in/ggaicFrv or sharing this post with someone who might be able to help. Even the smallest contribution can make a big impact! This was my second year participating, and even as a lifelong Alaskan, it’s mentally and physically taxing to prepare for a night outdoors in the wind, snow, or freezing temperatures. Even with state-of-the-art gear, access to a bathroom, and knowing this experience ends when I wake up, it’s still tough. I can’t imagine what it’s like to live this reality every day with no end in sight. Many people want to address homelessness but don’t realize that up to 50% of homeless adults started as homeless youth. I’ve already donated $2.5K to this campaign. If we can reach $12.5K by Friday, 11/29, I’ll contribute another $2.5K. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for these young people.

Did you know that over 38,000 young people aged 15–24 years presented alone to a homelessness service in 2022–23? Of these young people, almost half experienced mental ill-health, and over one-third experienced domestic and family violence. Most of these young people needed short- or long-term accommodation, and most were turned away due to a lack of capacity. These statistics only scratch the surface of issues that young people experiencing homelessness face. To have statistics like this in a country like Australia is not acceptable; together, we can have a tangible impact, and now is the time to act. #wehavetodobetter #YHMD

#Homelessness is a big topic of conversation in the greater Seattle area—and one that can be loaded with opinion and emotion. If you—like us here at Campion—believe that we need honest and empathetic conversation about #housing and homelessness, then we encourage you “donate your small talk” this holiday season. Donate Your Small Talk offers a way to educate and inspire empathy with friends/family/coworkers who are frustrated and sharing their frustration with you. This new campaign from We Are In will help you talk about homelessness in a clear, compassionate, and sensible way. For example: Your Uncle: All those homeless people downtown are why Seattle’s crime rates are so bad. It’s not safe there anymore. You: I hear your about safety. It’s a big concern for me, too. People who are homeless, though, are more likely to be the targets of crime, rather than the perpetrators. Crime is a real problem, but people experiencing homelessness is a separate issue. Homelessness is a serious challenge. We need to talk about it. Please repost to donate *your* small talk and tag three friends to help spread the word! Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gR6jdCBR

Family homelessness is preventable, with your help. We're wrapping up our annual peer-to-peer fundraising campaign. I set my goal at $7,500, and am just $1,200 short of that mark. Your tax-deductible contribution will ensure that asset-limited, income-constrained employed parents will have access to a financial safety-net, and that parents who are under-employed or unemployed will have access to the services they need to retain or regain housing. At Wellspring, our focus is on preventing homelessness. It's less expensive for donors and our government, less traumatic for children, and less costly to the employers for whom these parents work. Every dollar helps. Thank you for your contribution. https://lnkd.in/ggPEc_qK

Once again, the number of children experiencing homelessness has risen. In Greater Manchester, that's 7,679 children living in uncertainty and disruption. At the same time, we've seen a rise in the number of households owed a relief duty by their local authority. In other words, a rise in the number of households who are currently homeless. Genuinely affordable housing, meaningful preventative work, and full wrap around support to people without a home or facing a night on the streets are some of the raft of measures needed to truly end homelessness, and truly eradicate the need for rough sleeping. Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity are proud to support so many dedicated organisations in the city-region working hard to bring about real change, but we depend on the generosity and support of the businesses and people of the region to do that. If you can, help us be a lifeline to organisations on the frontline. https://lnkd.in/eH-Y9J9R We'll keep advocating for them, supporting them, and getting as much funding to them as we possibly can. Together, let's end #homelessness. The latest homelessness stats have been released and they paint a bleak picture. More children than ever are experiencing homelessness in England, including here in Greater Manchester. Too many young people are at critical stages of their young adulthood without the safety and security of a home. This disrupts learning, it disrupts relationships and it disrupts lives. We hope the new approaches that the new Government has tabled, especially their plans for housing, will provide some positive news in the months ahead, but as these figures show, there is a national crisis taking place. In the past five years, the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity has been able to fund over 78,000 nights of accommodation in our A Bed Every Night scheme for those who would otherwise have been sleeping on our streets, but we must do more. Everyone has a human right to have shelter and to feel safe. No one should be without a home, and we must continue to provide as much support as possible to those made most vulnerable by our society. Every donation we receive is vital to achieving this goal, allowing us to share funding where it’s needed most across each of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. Businesses can help support through corporate donations or by installing one of our ‘Tap to Donate’ machines at till points. To help us, please donate today: https://buff.ly/3uZMvs8

Today is World Homelessness Day. Homelessness is a growing crisis in Australia. Women, in particular, are experiencing homelessness at rapidly rising rates, and the need for specialist services is greater than ever. Currently, women make up the majority of people seeking homelessness support, with their rates of homelessness growing at twice the national average. In Victoria, family violence is the leading cause of homelessness, with an estimated 7,690 women returning to violent relationships every year and 9,120 women a year becoming homeless as a direct result of family violence (Equity Economics 2021). This 10th of October, we ask for your support of our critical work. Even a $10 donation can make a difference, helping to fund vital resources, support services, and tailored programs for women, non-binary people, and children impacted by family violence and homelessness. Your contribution could help to fund safe accommodation for a night or help cover transport costs so children can continue attending school from temporary housing. These are just a few examples of ways in which your donation can make a difference. Every contribution counts. 💜 Visit https://loom.ly/52Lmuq8 to donate today. #WorldHomelessDay #WorldHomelessnessDay #EndHomelessness #Support #Juno

Today is World Homeless Day, a moment to raise awareness and reflect on the urgent need to support those without a safe and stable place to call home. Having worked in the homelessness sector for nearly seven years, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges and vulnerabilities that so many people face daily. Every story is unique, but the common thread is the impact of compassion, support, and action in helping individuals regain stability and dignity. At Emmaus Merseyside we are committed to providing not just shelter, but also the resources and guidance needed for long-term recovery and reintegration. However, homelessness is a community issue, and we need more than just organizations working in isolation — we need everyone to engage, whether through awareness, donations, volunteering, or simply offering a listening ear. Today, let’s recognize the humanity of those who are too often overlooked, and commit to creating pathways to a more secure future for all. Together, we can make a difference, as nobody chooses homelessness. #WorldHomelessDay #EndHomelessness #SupportLocalCharities #CommunityAction #Merseyside

November is National Homeless Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the struggles faced by young people, families, and individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. This also includes National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (November 15-22), a chance to spotlight these critical issues impacting our communities. At BEDS Plus, we’ve seen firsthand how the housing crisis continues to grow, affecting more people in the places where we live and work. Over the past year, BEDS Plus has helped change the lives of more than 5,000 people, offering essential services, support, and paths to stability. But this mission is ongoing—thousands more in our area need support, and we are committed to providing it with the help of dedicated volunteers and donors. As we enter the season of giving, we invite you to join us. You can make a difference by volunteering or donating to BEDS Plus.
