Receiving care throughout pregnancy by a midwife who is known to you is now referred to as a midwifery continuity of care model. This method of healthcare service is one of the best public health strategies available to prevent preterm birth and will be a key strategy in the Every Week Counts - National Preterm Birth Prevention Collaborative to prevent preterm and early term birth. In fact, high-quality evidence suggests that preterm birth is reduced by around 24 per cent in such models when compared with other types of maternity care. For Aboriginal women in midwifery continuity models, the improvement is around 50%. Read the feature article in the 2024 edition of the Every Week Counts magazine by NSW’s Amanda Rehayem and WA’s Jennifer Leverington, to find out more about midwifery continuity of care and the many other advantages of receiving this type of care: https://lnkd.in/gzVuJjnN #everyweekcounts #preterm #pretermbirth #alliance #APBPA #borntoosoon #pregnancy #maternity #education #midwifery #midwife #continuityofcare Australian College of Midwives

🌿 Trends in Natural Birth Methods The rise in natural birth methods reflects a growing interest in holistic, low-intervention birthing experiences. Recent research supports the benefits of natural birth, including shorter recovery periods, fewer medical interventions, and a more empowered birthing experience. As more families explore these options, the demand for midwifery care, birth centers, and doula services is also growing. #NaturalBirthMethods #PregnancyTrends #HealthcareInsights #BirthEmpowerment #NaturalChildbirth #MaternityCare

🌍 It’s inspiring to see the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) championing the implementation of continuity of midwifery care across the globe. This model ensures that every woman receives care from an educated, autonomous professional midwife, leading to better outcomes for mothers, babies and families alike. Why does continuity of midwifery care matter? ✅ Improved Outcomes: Research shows this model has several benefits including reducing preterm births, stillbirths and neonatal complications ✅ Stronger Relationships: Women can build trust and connection with a dedicated midwife, enhancing their confidence and experience during pregnancy, birth and beyond. ✅ Empowered Midwives: This model can strengthen relationships, increasing optimal outcomes for women and babies and satisfaction for both mothers and midwives, ✅ Equity in Care: Continuity models can help ensure all women, regardless of background, receive high-quality, compassionate care. This is a powerful step toward achieving universal access to respectful maternity care.👏 #Midwifery #ContinuityOfCare #MaternalHealth #GlobalHealth #infantHealth

The Midwifery Model of Care is a wellness-based approach. It sees pregnancy as a normal, healthy process. Birth – while unpredictable – is best left to unfold with as little intervention as possible. Most significantly, midwives see birthing persons as equal partners in their care. Informed consent is paramount. The Midwifery Model of Care encourages watchful waiting and minimal intervention during birth. A good midwife knows how to use her hands for skilled care when necessary, and perhaps more importantly, when to sit on them. The focus is on the person giving birth, not on the technology. When intervention is necessary, they use an evidence-based approach. Midwives generally pass on practices that don’t improving outcomes. article by : silver spring doula Fakeeh University Hospital

More of this. A new Massachusetts law will expand access to midwifery care and out-of-hospital birth options. Why should we care? People deserve to choose how and where they give birth, especially Black and Brown moms who face worse health outcomes during birth and the postpartum period. The new innovations under this law, including expanding access to midwifery care, doulas, and developing more free-standing birth clinics, could pave the way for more people to have safe birthing experiences.
