Love regional or local history? Help the Southeast tell the full story…from slaves and slave owners to undergound railroad conductors all kinds of people make up a community’s history. ARC is helping Appalachian communities tell their involvement in the Underground Railroad. How are you helping your community to tell your community story?
ARC partners are helping local communities uplift their Underground Railroad history! Using $5M in POWER funding, the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, Shawnee State University & other partners are seeking to mark 27 new Underground Railroad sites in Appalachian Kentucky, Ohio & West Virginia. 📍 They hope to fold local historic sites into the National Park Service National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, bringing wider attention to Appalachia's rich cultural heritage and helping its communities better leverage their historical assets. Tomorrow is the deadline to submit your abstract for the Coastal Resilience and Adaptation Conference! Learn more about the conference and submission details below. #Adaptation #Coastalsolutions #Resilience
We are pleased to announce that Texas Sea Grant is coordinating with partner organizations to host a virtual 2-day Coastal Resilience and Adaptation Conference. The conference is intended to provide information and resources to coastal communities including decision makers, elected officials, city and county staff, natural resource managers, academics, the private sector, etc. on the latest technological advances for coastal resilience and adaptation. The conference will be broken up into sessions that will explore technological applications in 4 thematic tracks: o Coastal Energy Transition o Marine Debris o Nature Based Solutions o Early Hazard Warning Systems We invite you to submit an abstract for the conference and share your research/application areas with the communities in Texas. The deadline for abstract submission is May 15th, 2024. For more information, updates, and abstract submission, please visit tx.ag/CRAConference. Please see the attached flyer for further details and review criteria for the abstracts. Please contact us at tees_conferences@tamu.edu with any questions.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗢𝗖 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝟲𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆. Through research and observation of building performance during earthquakes, our seismic building codes continue to evolve. On this day in 1959, the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) Seismology Committee published the first edition of the Blue Book. This document was the first to outline the relationship between earthquake demands, building period, and the ductility of various lateral force-resisting systems. Such relationships became the standard for designing lateral force-resisting systems. In fact, other code provisions such as the Uniform Building Code have incorporated it into their lateral force requirements. Subsequent editions of the Blue Book continue to serve as a basis for seismic design today. Read more about the Blue Book here on the SEAONC Hensolt Legacy Page: https://lnkd.in/gq_qZajz
