The end of the academic year is quickly approaching for schools on traditional academic calendars, which means many mentors and mentees, particularly those involved in school-based mentoring programs, must consider the future of their mentoring relationships. Instead of officially closing their mentoring relationships, some matches participating in school-based mentoring programs may choose to meet in an alternative location, meet at different times or frequencies during the summer months, or take a break from communication between academic school years. Read our tips for redefining mentoring relationships during the summer break in healthy ways: https://lnkd.in/eQS6t_p3 #youthmentoring

The U.S. continues to account for most formal #mentoring, but many new programs, networks, and summits have emerged across the globe in recent years, including the forthcoming European #MentoringSummit at the Sorbonne in Paris later this month. The event is hosted by the Collectif Mentorat, a federation of over 70 organizations and Mentoring Europe. Although the US and European mentoring movements share many commonalities, there are some notable differences. A recent study (conducted with Òscar Prieto-Flores and Justin Preston) highlighted the ways that Europe’s movements contrasts with the US movement. https://lnkd.in/e9zhd4Ys

Empowering Young Girls and Leaders: Why Mentorship Matters. Starting on your own in a world full of uncertainty, managing everyday difficulties, and the constant evolution of technology can be especially difficult for any growing child. The urge to define who they are and find clarity on what their purpose is can be challenging. At FMGA, our goal is to help young girls unlock their full potential by educating and equipping them with the knowledge and resources they need to become useful to themselves and society at large. For us at FMGA mentorship is at the core of what we do and here’s why; ✅ It provides a new perspective: Mentorship helps young people understand who they are and who they want to become. It also promotes a feeling of awareness and discovery that can only come through intentional efforts ✅ It breaks down barriers to access: Mentorship provides access to networks, resources, knowledge, experiences, and opportunities ✅ It brings about goal achievement: With structures in place to bring about accountability setting goals and career attainment becomes easier with mentorship ✅ It equips one with the skills and competencies needed to navigate life Mentorship instills skills such as confidence, critical thinking, and adaptability in individuals encouraging them to take risks and pursue their goals ✅ It builds resilience Mentorship teaches one how to bounce back from setbacks and life challenges Mentorship is like the training wheels you get on a bike while learning; you can learn from the mistakes of other and their experiences and we are here to create that community, that training wheels community for young girls. Join us on this journey as help young girls in Africa unlock their full potentials.
