No matter if it's Mussoorie, another hill station, or any other place, the old charm will never return for sure. These peaceful destinations have been affected by the negative impacts of excessive tourism, insensitive crowds, the burden of countless vehicles, flawed government policies, and irregularities. The locals are forced to seek employment elsewhere due to the overemphasis on tourism as the sole source of income. Furthermore, the construction of highways often involves the destruction of precious forests. All of these issues stem from a lack of collaborative thought process. There exists a significant gap, disagreement, and disconnect between the policymakers and the local communities. It is crucial to address these challenges and work together to preserve the beauty and tranquility of these places. I have a strong connection to Nainital, Haldwani, and Ranikhet, as these places were the backdrop of my childhood memories. Over time, the situation and atmosphere in these areas have undergone significant changes. Unfortunately, it seems that chaos has become a constant presence in almost every season. Tourists and Reel makers flock to these places, often disrupting the tranquility that once existed. The local wildlife and bird life have experienced significant negative impacts. Regrettably, very few content creators show genuine concern for the local issues that arise. Moreover, it is disheartening to see that hardly any of them actively contribute towards addressing these problems. Perhaps, there is a lack of awareness or willingness to make a positive impact. Speedy melting of #glaciers caused by #heatwave and intermittent rains in different areas of #GilgitBaltistan triggered flash #floods in streams, nullahs and rivers, sweeping away a wooden bridge, damaging another, blocking roads and stranding local and foreign tourists in different areas of the region. Flash floods also damaged crops, agriculture land, uprooted trees and disconnected several villages from other GB areas. Officials of the local administration said a flash flood swept away a wooden bridge linking Finna village with other areas. Another concrete bridge was damaged extensively by the flood water, making it unusable for the people. https://lnkd.in/d6BCF4aN #tourism #Tourisminsights #pakistan #tourismindustry #AtharJ #ecotourism #sustainabletourism #sustainability #sustainabledevelopment #tourismmarketing #60seconds

Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit entity, the Intrepid Foundation, has partnered with Rainforest Rescue to safeguard the Daintree Rainforest, Australia’s most ecologically significant rainforest. The Daintree Rainforest is the world’s oldest continuously evolving rainforest and is Australia’s largest and most biodiverse. It holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for its traditional custodians, the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people. Located in tropical North Queensland, the ancient forest is home to unique and endangered species including the Southern Cassowary, the Spectacled Flying-fox and Bennett’s Tree Kangaroo, as well as several ancient and primitive flowering plants. The Daintree is the most profound example of rainforest on the planet,” Rainforest Rescue CEO, Branden Barber, said. “The opportunity to protect what’s left, yet is still unprotected, and to restore land that was once part of the forest but was cleared, ensures that this unique and essential habitat continues to exist. This supports not only the rare and threatened species of this ancient wonderland, but is a primary destination for tourism in the region. There is nothing like the Daintree.” Story: https://lnkd.in/gwUWx9GZ #travel #sustainable

The city of dreams is wading through a flood of problems. The rain photos are the same every year — people negotiating knee-deep water, traffic jams, stationary trains in submerged waters. The rainfall has intensified over the years, increasing the mayhem and devastation, but the authorities are still dragging their feet over sustainable solutions and development plans that regard ecology. Lubaina Rangwala, Program Head, Urban Development and Resilience with Sustainable Cities and Transport team at World Resources Institute suggests breaking the Mithi’s retaining walls and creating green buffer zones and open forests. https://lnkd.in/dV3vkWyw #Mumbai #MumbaiFloods #urbanfloods #MithiRiver #natureincities #buildbackbetter

Little penguins at risk of vanishing from WA island as once-thriving colony reduced to 120 birds Exclusive: Study shows Penguin Island population in freefall, sources say, amid pressure from tourism, boat traffic and warming seas. A once-thriving population of little penguins on a tourist island off Perth’s coast has plummeted to no more than 120 birds, with plans to build a container port in nearby foraging grounds further threatening the survival of the colony. The latest population study on Penguin Island – 600 metres offshore and 50km south of Perth city – has revealed that penguin numbers have crashed by two-thirds in the past five years, sources say. https://lnkd.in/dRUbyN6Q
