Curious about this announcement in regards to what it means for Santos Ltd's proposed Bayu Undan CCS project announced 3 years ago (but yet to release any details on the project). In one of the few presentation materials on Bayu Undan, the significant volume of CO2 from INPEX Corporation's Ichthys gas field, was earmarked for Bayu Undan - which is touted to store 10million tonnes of CO2/yr. In a significant step forward for industrial decarbonisation in the UK, oil and gas major Eni has been granted permission to develop a pipeline for transporting captured carbon dioxide (CO2) for storage under the seabed by the government's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. The pipeline will form part of the Hynet North West decarbonisation project - a hydrogen production and carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiative for capturing carbon emissions from industrial plants across northwest England and north Wales. The captured CO2 will travel through a network of new and refurbished pipelines for secure and permanent storage in depleted natural gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay. Yet more good news for the #Humber region on it’s determination to deliver it's #netzero vision as Drax Group yesterday agreed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Viking CCS, which will see the companies work together on an early pipeline study to explore options that could connect Drax Power Station to the depleted Viking gas fields in the southern North Sea.
