The past six months have been some of the most intense of my professional life. The picture below is from a trip to Hong Kong, one of many international journeys. Despite what the photo might suggest, it has been incredibly busy and intense, yet also fun and rewarding. This is largely because of the fantastic global team I have the privilege of working with and leading. I was speaking at the Finnish-Swedish Chamber of Commerce (FINSVE) conference about new market entry today 🔥 Thank you to the organisers for a big crowd and a fantastic event! Thank you also to my fellow speakers, panelists and moderators Nina Ingves, Staffan Snellman, Peter Wiklöf, Kjell Skoglund, Camilla Wikman, Hannah Malkamäki, Robin Tallberg, Jokinen Janne, Kristian Schrey, Joel Sunabacka & Tua Takasu! I gained new insights and ideas from you! One of the main points in my talk was: "No one should ever feel any remorse because we tried and failed, but one should feel remorse because we took too long to realise we had already failed." Business is always risky but without trying you will also never succeed. No risk it, no biscuit. Fail fast and try again. One of the most important things about our company culture is that we have cultivated a high level of trust in our organisation. People trust that failing will not result in punishment, ridicule or sour moods. Therefore, we also dare to try! Courage is another key value for us which drives our innovation and growth. New market entry is not cheap. You need to be courageous and have the right resources in place! Otherwise you will either set yourself up for testing something else entirely than the market or you will end up paying a little bit over a long period because you think your low-cost failure might succeed the next year! New market entry is risky but it is also the biggest potential driver of growth for any Finnish business! We are a small country of 5,5 million people and our market potential is very limited. However, our talent and ability to innovate are second to none! Dare to go big! Dare to go international!

🔍 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 last week, organized by Ganado Advocates and Zampa Debattista. I had the pleasure of joining a panel discussion focused on the internationalisation of local family businesses. Here are my key takeaways: 1️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴: A solid business structure is essential, but don’t let perfection hold you back. Embrace the challenge and get started. Your current structure needs to support both local and new international operations until everything is fully set up. 2️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲: Who will lead your expansion? Assigning this task to an overstretched team won’t cut it. Ensure you have the right talent in place—people who are equipped and committed to driving your international growth from day one. 3️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰, 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰: Internationalisation should be a deliberate part of your growth strategy, not a reaction to market trends or saturation. Your business purpose, values, and culture should guide your expansion plans—not what everyone else is doing. 4️⃣ 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Different countries mean different markets, cultures, and preferences. Avoid a copy-paste approach. Respect local nuances, adapt where needed, but stay true to your core values. Authenticity wins over rigidity. 5️⃣ 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: Tap into networks with minimal conflict of interest, such as business representative association, chambers and embassies. These independent entities often provide valuable connections, resources, and advice that can significantly shorten your learning curve. Last week I was invited to the conference "Portugal, o pais onde vais querer estar" organised by the Associação Business Roundtable Portugal, where I had the opportunity to speak with the Portuguese PM Luis Montenegro about the reasons qualified people move abroad in the search for career opportunities. What I found in the UK was far from an easy life, and leaving my home country was a difficult and well pondered decision. But here are some of the reasons that made me stay in London for this long: - An open, more inclusive social fabric that supports and celebrates individual success - A dynamic economy that provided me with opportunities for growth, both in my career and on a personal level - Excellent resources in my area of AI, Data and Analytics, in tune with large investments in R&D both at an academic and industrial level - A simpler set of fiscal rules that do not punish career growth I am proud of being Portuguese and thankful for the quality of life and excellent education I was able to receive as I grew up. But, in my view, for Portugal to be more competitive it needs a few years of hard work that is focused on not just immediate returns, but mostly long-term change: - Higher investment in Academia and R&D; we have some of the best scientists in the world, and fail to capitalise on this - A shift away from the risk-averse mindset that makes us have a fear of success; this takes us further away from a proper meritocratic system and curbs growth - Foundational reforms in 4 main pillars: Education, Health, Economy and Justice, so we can effectively distance ourselves from the dangerous populist, ill-informed far-right movements, while supporting both people and companies and ensuring the Justice system is fast, fair and accountable for their actions. Thank you to the Portuguese Prime Minister and Rosália Cubal Pena who joined me on this panel, and to Pedro Ginjeira Nascimento, Ângela Correia and the rest of the ABRP team for the invite and for organising an event that shone a light on not just the problems, but also the great work that is done on a daily basis throughout Portugal. 𝐌𝐲 5 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 1 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 European Confederation of Junior Enterprises (JE Europe) As I look back at the past year I feel overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for all the experiences that Junior Enterprises allowed me to live. I could spend hours and hours talking about it, but here’s my top 5 lessons learned: 1️⃣ At 22 years old 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒐𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 to organise 4 international conferences, one of which at the European Parliament, with a total of 900+ participants and 25+ partners and sponsors. 2️⃣ When you are the #youngest at the table (even more when you are the only #woman), whether in a panel discussion or at a dinner table, do not let the believe that you're not credible enough turn you down. 𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌 𝒖𝒑 and show your enthusiasm and motivation, and people will appreciate and value you. This is how some of the most meaningful connections and partnerships I made this year started. 3️⃣ Living and working with people from 16 #different countries is a challenge, and the key to making it work is LISTENING. 𝑫𝒐 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒆: 𝒂𝒔𝒌. Most conflicts arise because we struggle to #empathise, stuck in the conviction that our point of view is the truth. Here’s the trick: it is one point, not THE point. 4️⃣ 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒆𝒕 𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔. It is not thinkable to be reachable, responsive, available and #productive 24/7: burnout is not the goal! As young entrepreneurs it is easy to fall in the trap of feeling like you “have to” always be there. Spoiler: you do not. Take time to dedicate to yourself, your hobbies and rest, it will impact #positively also your work. 5️⃣ Last but not least, I learned that I am a natural #connector, that I thrive when I am with other people and when I do something that I like.
