True transformation in sustainable packaging requires so much more than any one individual could contribute. That's why, in this issue of Unpacked, we're excited to share two opportunities where experts like you can come together to scale meaningful change. 📖 The first is our newest resource, "Framework for Scaling Reuse," which you can use to guide your reuse initiatives to prioritize their long-term success and scalability. 🤝 Next, we're sharing exciting news from our Collaboratives: In 2025, SPC is launching or evolving five Collaboratives on topics from EPR to Store Drop-off. Check out our November newsletter to learn more about these opportunities, takeaways on climate migration, packaging policy updates, and more! #SustainablePackaging #Climate #EPR #Sustainability

Further to my short course on Social and Environmental impacts ... my thanks to Mitch Spiegel for pointing me to this MIT-Sloan piece on finding a circularity strategy to fit your business model. https://lnkd.in/e4cVd4WC [Mitch is at https://lnkd.in/evY-Wnau] The article actually covers a lot more than pure "circularity", which is often only a very small part of opportunities to radically reduce harmful environmental impacts We can of course do much more than this article suggests. After finding possible strategy elements, we can test them (alone or combined**) and manage the whole environment-impact improvement strategy with a digital-twin model - in case you missed the mini-course on this, you can get it at http://sdl.re/mini06. ___ ** The reason we need to test strategy components in combination is that you can't save the same impact twice. E.g. if we already saved 20% of energy use by conservation measures, there's only the remaining 80% to go for with further efforts.

What is the footprint? 👣🌎🍀 Credits to Ahmed eltabey. Follow him for more sustainability insights. Original post : __________ A “footprint” refers to the impact or effect something has on the environment, society, or economy. The term is often used in specific contexts, such as: 1. Carbon Footprint: The total amount of greenhouse gases (mainly carbon dioxide) that are emitted by human activities, such as driving a car, flying, or using electricity. It’s a measure of how much your actions contribute to climate change. 2. Ecological Footprint: A measure of how much natural resources a person, organization, or country consumes compared to what the Earth can regenerate. It considers factors like land use, water use, and waste production. 3. Water Footprint: The total volume of freshwater used directly or indirectly by a person or organization to produce goods or services. In business, these footprints are used to assess sustainability and environmental responsibility. Reducing footprints is a common goal in efforts to combat climate change and promote environmental health. __________ ♻️ Find this post useful? As far as buzzword bingo goes, "Sustainability" is a word you'll see everywhere in 2024, and with good reason. The goal of creating systems, processes and ways of working that reduce our environmental impact couldn't be more pressing. However, we're not about to give you the lengthy warning on why this is so important (Mr Attenborough has that fully covered). Instead, today we've got the rundown on how everyone working with technology can create a pathway to more sustainable IT operations: #Sustainability #SustainableIT #GreenIT #ITSolutions #ITSustainability

Request group members who are actively contributing to ESG implementation to share your creative ideas to celebrate June 2024 month as a sustainable development month. E.g. 1. Sharing knowledge, tips on water conservation, energy conservation. 2. Tree plantation in own home and colony premises. Keep bio-diversity in mind. 3. Participating actively in CSR initiatives on the theme of sustainable development. 4. Collaborating with Government's agriculture and forest conservation departments to contribute in hills greening, soil conservation measures. 5. Organising Eco tours of employees and their family members to increase their interest in nature care. 6. Organising contests for nature photography, environment protection related video creation, social media reels, etc. 7. Volunteer in nature preservation activities organised by NGOs. 8. Organise special campaign for promoting waste reduction, waste to wealth, waste to energy initiatives. 9. Making people aware of new technologies for natural resource conservation. 10.Organising seminars on rain water harvesting, renewal energy initiatives. 11. Organising seminars for suppliers, schools on water audit, energy audit, human rights, Government schemes on sustainable development. 12. Promoting employees to self study, nominate themselves for open house programs on ESG implementation, Green buildings, green company certification, forest conservation, biodiversity standards, Green house emission reduction, Life cycle assessment, carbon neutrality, etc. 13. ...... Add your ideas. Please do inform us if we can be of any use in taking your organisation's drive in sustainable development drive. Govind Pitre 9922419763, aggp.scs@gmail.com

🌍🔄 On September 24, Austrian Standards and Circular Economy Forum Austria hosted an insightful expert talk on the role of #CircularEconomy in addressing resource challenges and climate change. The discussion highlighted how adopting circular economy principles can drive both #sustainability and #economicgrowth. Standards play a crucial role in supporting these efforts, ensuring consistency and enabling innovation. Team members Ilija Ilić and Iwona Wagner-Gajewska who attended the event noted the relevance of these discussions to Reincarnate’s mission of maximizing the lifecycle and reuse potential of #buildings and materials in #construction. 🌱🏗️ 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/esWrCXhm #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Innovation #ReincarnateProject

In this piece on illuminem, I explore how impact metrics could evolve beyond the current ones, which often fall short of capturing the true depth of environmental and social responsibility. While B Corp certification presents as a beacon of social and environmental responsibility, the reality tells a different story. At its core, the certification remains trapped in "carbon tunnel vision", an overly simplistic focus on carbon metrics that has accelerated ecosystem destruction rather than mitigating it. The push for carbon neutrality often incentivizes monocultures, overlooking the intricacies of natural ecosystems. This shallow approach disregards vital ecological processes like biodiversity, nutrient cycles, water cycles, and regenerative land management. The result is a landscape devastated by exploitation masquerading as sustainability. To truly lead the change, we need holistic, science-backed metrics that understand and respect the complexity of nature: 🌱 Biodiversity over Monocultures: A thriving ecosystem relies on diversity, not uniformity. 🌍 Soil and Water Health: Tracking soil quality, water cycles, and nutrient flow must take priority over isolated carbon figures. 🔬 Ecosystem Understanding: Nature’s resilience depends on balance, something no carbon calculator can measure. It’s time to challenge the status quo. Certifications like B Corp fail to capture the true essence of sustainability and perpetuate systems that harm the environment they claim to protect. We call for a regenerative ecosystem framework that values resilience, diversity, and the intricate web of life that sustains us all. Let’s move beyond reductionist metrics and towards genuine, impactful change. The future of corporate responsibility must start with understanding how nature works, not just calculating its value. Is the era of "greenwashing certifications" finally over?
