Lithium extraction from geothermal brine is another of those topics that perk up the ears of people from outside the geothermal community. This story on the work being done by Weardale Lithium to explore and develop a geothermal lithium extraction project in the UK made it to the top 10 stories for the 1st half of the year - the second lithium-related story on the list. Check out the story from April 2024 here -> https://lnkd.in/d2Avmygt #lithiumextraction #geothermallithium #geothermal #geothermalnews

Vulcan Energy has entered into an agreement to supply geothermal heat ♨️ for industrial use of chemical producer BASF in Germany, with possible lithium extraction 🔋. This announcement follows up on two similarly big announcements that Vulcan has made within the last two weeks – the start of lithium hydroxide production at the company’s CLEOP site in Frankfurt, and the awarding of EUR 100 million federal funding from the Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection of Germany 🙌. The infographic below is a good illustration of the difference between current (conventional) hydrothermal systems and superhot rock geothermal. Next-generation geothermal (EGS and AGS) is basically the same as superhot rock geothermal, except that it doesn't go down to such depths.
A new bipartisan bill in the US seeks to establish and support a framework for research and testing of supercritical geothermal technologies. 🙌 Supercritical geothermal ♨, sometimes referred to as superhot rock energy, is a category of enhanced geothermal systems that requires deep drilling technologies to access dry rocks at temperatures around 400°C or greater, that can supply about five to ten times more energy per well 👏 compared to conventional hydrothermal systems. 👀 Read more here ➡️: https://lnkd.in/dvBnWN4z #US #Geothermal #GeothermalDevelopment #Technology #SuperHotGeothermal #Legislation

This has become one of the hottest area for the #EnergyTransition in recent months. I have no idea how much geologic hydrogen is available, economically viable or extractable with off the shelf technology. Some of this feels a bit like a Tech Hype Cycle, but there’s enough potential that we need to figure this out.
10 companies were actively searching for geologic hydrogen deposits by the end of 2022 One year later? 40 gold rush? Seems like it #hydrogen #hydrogeneconomy #decarbonization https://lnkd.in/ez3jcVWs

Recent industry analyses highlight that the supply of rare earth oxides from non-Chinese sources is expected to grow nearly sixfold by 2030, with the United States and Australia leading this expansion. This strategic shift is driven by the rapidly expanding demand for renewable energy, electric vehicles and advanced technologies. Equally important is the urgent need to secure resilient and diversified supply chains, mitigating risks associated with over-reliance on a single source for these critical materials. As part of this broader trend, Critica’s flagship Jupiter Project, situated within the larger Brothers REE Project, is well positioned to play a role in this growth. Located in close proximity to critical infrastructure and processing facilities, Jupiter offers the scale and grade necessary to assist in the development of an ex-China rare earths supply chain.
