Step by step, in collaboration with many others, SST is advancing the cause of cleaner oceans for the benefit of all. In this ongoing global effort, international treaties and agreements play an essential role. They establish the foundation on which governments build their policies and commit to action. That’s why the publication of the revised draft text of an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution is an encouraging step in the right direction. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) recently released the unedited draft version of UNEP/PP/INC.4/3, a critical document that outlines crucial options and strategies for tackling plastic pollution worldwide – including marine plastic. Making waves for a change 🌊 Join us in our mission to create a positive social impact through our Sea2see Foundation and our W.A.V.E.S program ! 🌍💙 With W.A.V.E.S, we’re not just cleaning up marine waste in West Africa, we’re transforming communities and environments. 🐋🌱 Our three main goals are : 1. By giving value to waste and buying it, coastal communities benefit from a new source of income 2. We raise awareness about environmental contamination 3. Coastal environment gets cleaned up Our program W.A.V.E.S. stands for : Waste - where you see waste we see raw material Awareness - education is key in order to transform the vision people have of waste Value - we give value to marine plastic waste Earnings - cleaning up the ocean creates new income for the local communities Solution - Less plastic, cleaner coastal environment, cleaner ocean, more fish and sustainable supply chain - part of the circular economy 🌍🌊 #SocialImpact #WavesOfChange #sea2seefoundation #EnvironmentalAction #Sea2SeeFoundation #ProtectThePlanet #PlasticFreeOceans #ThereIsNoOceanB #SaveThePlanet

Yesterday, we celebrated International Earth Day, a day that raises awareness of environmental issues worldwide. This year, the focus was on water and water pollution. As part of Earth Day 2024, a drastic reduction in plastic waste production was also demanded. The theme for yesterday's Earth Day 2024 was "Planet vs. Plastics," calling for a significant decrease in plastic production. Water is life – indispensable for humans, flora, and fauna. In a time where resources are becoming scarce and climate change is increasingly evident, it's more crucial than ever that each of us contributes to environmental protection. Through mindful water usage, sustainable shopping, reducing paper consumption, and responsible food shopping, we can all contribute to protecting the environment. Conserve water and protect this vital elixir! Clean waterways, reduced water and plastic usage, and more efficient use of rainwater are critical. It's up to each of us to take responsibility and make small changes in our daily lives to positively impact environmental conservation. #EarthDay #WaterIsLife #PlanetVsPlastics #SaveOurPlanet #SustainableLiving #ReducePlastic #ConserveWater #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalProtection #GoGreen #ActOnClimate

#WorldCleanupDay: South Asia is a hotspot for plastic waste entering the ocean each year. Two recently released The World Bank reports, supported by PROBLUE and SAWI trust funds, reveal that rivers in this region are major conduits for plastic pollution. The problem is intensified as the plastic waste management infrastructure struggles to keep pace with rapid urbanization and population growth. Learn how the World Bank is empowering communities and protecting waters in this blog by Christian Peter and Ann Jeannette Glauber: https://lnkd.in/d2Tef22f #PROBLUE_Ocean #PlasticPollution #SouthAsia #Sustainability #BeatPlasticPollution

#PlasticPollution exacerbates the triple planetary crisis of #ClimateChange, #biodiversity loss and #pollution, with plastic projected to double and account for 15% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 under business-as-usual. We are proud to be one of the 160 financial institutions that have signed the Finance Statement on Plastic Pollution, calling on governments for an ambitious international treaty to end plastic pollution ahead of the fourth round of international negotiations (#INC4) taking place next week in Canada. Did you know? An estimated 19–23 million metric tonnes of plastic end up in lakes, rivers, and seas each year. Each person consumes over 50,000 plastic particles annually, more if inhalation is considered. Disposed or incinerated plastic harms human health and biodiversity and emits greenhouse gases. On June 5, we celebrate World Environment Day, a global platform raising awareness about environmental pollution. This year’s World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land, Our future. We are Generation Restoration." According to UNEP, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the 2024 World Environment Day global celebrations. The objective of World Environment Day is to raise awareness about critical environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and biodiversity loss. As we progress, the significance of this day grows, highlighting our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet. Let's act responsibly—preserve beaches, plant trees, and educate others on the importance of reducing plastic waste. Together, we can make a difference. #WorldEnvironmentDay #ClimateAction #BeatPlasticPollution #Biodiversity #Sustainability #ActNow #GreenFuture #SaveOurPlanet #EcoFriendly #GenerationRestoration #SustainableSolutions #SinnthyaMacek #Sinnthya

🌍 Today marks the first day of INC-5, the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee working to finalize the world's first international treaty to combat plastic pollution. 📘 As plastic waste continues to harm aquatic biodiversity and human health through food chains, the need for global solutions is urgent. Check out the Handbook on “Transfer of waste and plastics in aquatic environments” to learn more on: 👉 Effective strategies to reduce waste at its source and prevent its transfer to waterways 👉 Case studies, including innovative waste management projects in many places The International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO/RIOB) and its partners, the Partenariat français pour les déchets / French Solid Waste Partnership, the ISWA International Solid Waste Association and the AFD - Agence Française de Développement, have worked together to publish the Handbook on the Transfer of waste and plastics in aquatic environments. #INC5 #PlasticPollution #WasteManagement #CircularEconomy
