It’s not about how you started. It’s about what keeps you going. When I started my podcast, I felt the pain of: - Not knowing what to do  - Not knowing how to do it  - Embarrassing episodes - Failing again and again  - Cringey production I was frustrated. All I wanted was to be a great podcast host. But I was going in circles over and over again. It was more than simply talking to people on the internet. This started a 4 year journey to understand: - How to tell my story - How to record effortlessly - How to produce great episode - How to interview amazing guests - How to build the simple business That pain that got me started turned into curiosity. To this day, I get lost in fine tuning the weirdest of things: The camera, lights, sounds, the pointless background tree. Everything rolls up to the final product. While appearing on I'm Not Selling You Anything presented by Dog Sheet and hosted by Brian Montoya 👾 I mentioned that I used to be a musician in a former life. Is it any coincidence that after the episode dropped, the monthly active listeners on my old band's spotify page TRIPLED? 🧲 Attribution is hard, but correlation isn't. There definitely was a buzz in the house as my daughter finally had something to be proud of me. Two 🔑 points: 1. Put yourself out there. If Brian gifts you the opportunity to join him on a podcast, take it. You never know the impact such an appearance will have. 2. Percentages are kind of useless unless you have context/understanding of the size you are working with. Episode in the comments.

Our podcast The Neon Show reaches millions in a month. Apart from the podcast, we started a new series called Why We Invested a few months ago. So far we covered 12 companies. It takes a week time to finish one blog from research to talking to founders+domain experts, sharing our thesis and finally doing the most challenging work i.e. summarising everything our founders do and their mission in limited words. shikhar and Siddhartha work on this initiative and to write 12 blogs Shikhar had in depth conversations with 25+ folks and read a lot of content on the net to understand different markets and domains. Most people think their podcast is about *them*… Sure, you’re the face of the show, your story is weaved into each episode, and people come back to hear what you’ve gotta say. But that still doesn’t make it about *you*! See, the podcasters that connnect the best, the ones that build a dedicated audience who come back every week to hear every episode, and build a loyal base of fans (and customers) that want to take the next step, are the ones that keep the listener at the forefront. Their story connects with the listener, so the listener feels seen, heard, and understood. And that’s make keeps them coming back for more. Most people think their podcast is about them.z but the best podcasters know it’s all about their *listeners*.

Have you considered that some people might care about what you have to say on a topic you are passionate about? On our first episode of the Show UP Podcast, Isaac Anderson and I discuss what keeps people from starting their own show. One reason is that people feel they are the only ones with passion for the subject or that other people will not care about their own thoughts about the topic. Imagine sitting around the dinner table on Thanksgiving and never saying a word because you think nobody will care what you have to say. In reality, every topic comes with an audience.
