🎪 Another awesome activation from Better Green Productions on the 2024 festival circuit! 🎪 We recently collaborated with our longtime partners at Backlash Agency to deliver an incredible summer festival activation for Thayers Facial Tonic, featured at both Boardmasters and All Points East festivals. The objective was to create an immersive, interactive brand experience for festival-goers. I'm excited about the growing focus on live experiences. Experiential marketing is booming across all sectors, from major players like The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery investing billions in their theme parks to mid-size organizations like Gibson, Inc. with its sensorial retail experience 'Gibson's Garage' and, even, restaurant pop-up charts. This year, I once again watched the spectacle of Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2024 unfold with awe. Though I wasn't able to attend in person, I’ve been kept up to date by Ella Butler, my social feeds and of course, the BizBash annual round up from Claire Hoffman - which never fails to highlight best in class. Here’s five key activations that really stood out for me: 1. Pinterest Manifestival: Pinterest's transformation of the Carlton Beach Club into a real-life version of their digital platform is always a pleasure to behold. They nailed it again this year! 2. LinkedIn: The Place to B2B: LinkedIn's clever play on words perfectly encapsulated their activation's purpose. They took over three floors of the Carlton hotel, to create a hub for professional connections and creativity. 3. Meta Beach: Meta's focus on connections and the possibilities of their technology was expertly executed. The standout Reels Cinema, emerging from the sand was such a great idea. Nice work Jack Morton Worldwide! 4. Spotify Beach: Spotify's round-the-clock activation hub was a masterclass in blending thought leadership with entertainment. 5. Netflix: The giant Netflix 'N' towering over the Croisette is now a Cannes Lions staple, serving as a constant reminder of the streaming giant's presence. Their rooftop takeover, featured vignettes inspired by their most popular shows. Another incredible experience by Seen Presents. Did anyone meet our Squid Game actors, by the way? A huge shout out to ALL the brand ambassadors, event managers, and support staff who are the unsung heroes of Cannes Lions, ensuring that every interaction leaves a lasting impression. Wouldn't it be nice if customers bought from you without the competition providing for any alternatives. This is possible if you are the only one who is offering this or if you have the first mover advantage. For all of this to happen you need to learn how to move into areas where your competition is irrelevant, and you have something others will find it difficult to replicate or offer. This is where Blue Ocean Strategy can help companies find newer business and operating models and create new go to market strategies and create compelling products and services. If you fancy yourself going to traditional circuses, then Cirque du Soleil just pulled the carpet from under such traditional players by using a Blue Ocean Model. You now get more entertainment minus the animals, smell of elephant dung, dangerous stunts with enhanced entertainment value mixing dance, drama, elements of theater and music which has been bumped up reducing the other factors such as relying on star performers, expensive logistics and only catering to children and family. Cirque du Soleil created a totally new uncontested market by spreading their offerings to the theater goers and in general anyone looking for pure entertainment value instead of limiting their audience footprint. This can happen in any industry. They also cross sell these shows with syndicated viewership across distributed network with unique licensing and also selling branded merchandise. They followed the four actions framework in their business model and created an experience hard to resist for anyone wanting to spend an evening worth remembering. Eliminate: Traditional circus elements like animal shows, star performers. Reduce: Emphasis on circus thrill and danger. Raise: Level of artistic content, storytelling, and ambiance. Create: A novel form of entertainment combining theater, dance, and music with acrobatics. They maintained their unique value proposition by staying ahead of potential imitators and continuously delighting audiences worldwide with people willing to pay premium prices for unique and sophisticated entertainment. It is always good to have your business model drawable on a single page for anyone to see what customer segments you impact, value propositions, revenue channels, CRM streams, resources and finally your key activities and go to marker partnerships and cross sell up sell opportunities with the underlying cost involved. In line with its precedent the ASA ruled against an advertiser who ran a prize draw to win backstage passes but on the day the backstage experience advertised (including riding on an artist's buggy) was not available. Promotors are responsible for all stages of a promo, so even if it's not your fault the talent refused to meet the competition winner the ASA will still find the ad in breach. Always key to ensure that you've got contractual remedies in place.
