Why don't firms adopt technologies and practices that are expected to improve productivity? For digital technologies, financing constraints come out top, but when it comes to artificial intelligence a lack of information seems to be a bigger issue. Pleased to share the following article which showcases some of my commentary alongside Ven Adamov, as well as key findings from KPMG Canada's Canadian perspective on the 2024 Global Tech Survey. This year’s study surveyed over 2,400 technology executives across the globe, including 150 Canadian leaders. And while Canadian organizations are still more risk-averse than our global counterparts, it isn’t impairing our willingness to embrace technology and extract value from our investments, including AI. In the age of rapid technological advancement, leaders are challenged to navigate the complexities of digital transformation by focusing on people and processes alongside the technology itself. This human-centered approach is crucial for the responsible and ethical deployment of technology. “The world is going through an important and interesting transition. AI has already begun to redefine how we live and work,” says Khaled Al Huraimel, Group Chief Executive Officer & Vice Chairman of BEEAH Group. Sukwoong Choi, Assistant Professor of Business AI at University at Albany, SUNY, says, “Exploring GenAI's potential is crucial for understanding how these technologies not only drive economic growth but also redefine the landscape of work and corporate strategy in the modern era.” “The region is filled with deep pockets of opportunities when it comes to technological adoption and supported by robust macro-economic fundamentals, including a predominantly youthful population and some of the fastest-growing rates of digital, smartphone, and mobile penetration globally,” says Noor Sweid, Founder & Managing Partner, Global Ventures. “Propelled by a new wave of emerging technologies that are redefining the economic and social landscape, the market has evolved to become a ‘winner-takes-most’ environment.” says Faisal Hamady, Managing Director and Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Lori Baker, Vice President – Data Protection & Regulatory Compliance at DIFC, will discuss the developing regulatory landscape in the UAE / GCC, specifically Regulation 10 in the DIFC. At the NextTech Summit, Shirish Bhide, Chief Executive Officer of the United Arab Bank says, attendees will gain insights into the possible solutions that leaders must consider in a world that will soon be dominated by technology in all forms including many deeply pervasive forms of Gen AI and GPT. A week after the EU final votes on its AI Act, we see that the attention and progress of nations and international organizations in Responsible AI is accelerating. Time will tell if the progress in Responsible AI-related regulations will succeed to outpace the enormous progress in AI in general and GenAI in particular and achieve that ahead of the inevitable AGI. #ResponsibleAI #GenAI #G7 #EUAIAct #OECD #AGI
Building strong norms for the responsible development and use of AI requires consistent, ongoing action by and among national governments. The G7 Industry, Technology, and Digital Ministerial Meeting in Italy has led to important progress on this front. The declaration issued at the conclusion of their meetings included three critical priorities: ▪ Supporting AI adoption across the public and private sectors, including among micro, small and medium enterprises, with ethical and responsible deployment practices. ▪ Advancing the Hiroshima AI Process Comprehensive Policy Framework, which includes a set of Principles and a Code of Conduct for Developers of Advanced AI Systems. We’re pleased to see this year’s focus on supporting the implementation of the Code of Conduct and broadening the involvement of key partners and organizations such as the OECD. ▪ Ensuring a focus on ‘growing together’ by supporting and promoting developing countries as key partners in the safe, secure, and trustworthy development, deployment, and use of AI for sustainable development. This progress represents an excellent start to the G7 ITALIA under the leadership of Minister Adolfo Urso and Undersecretary Alessio Butti. At Microsoft, we look forward to supporting the concrete steps identified in the statement ahead of the Leaders Summit in June.

In our recent survey of global technology leaders, UK respondents seemed more concerned (34%) than their US (27%), French (24%), German (20%), and Asian (21%) counterparts, around regulatory risks impacting GenAI adoption. This is not necessarily a sign of scepticism, rather an indication of the UK’s 'fast follower' approach that we have seen with previous disruptive innovations. The heightened awareness of the regulatory landscape shows the UK’s commitment to cautious and compliant technological progression, ensuring GenAI is implemented responsibly and ethically. https://lnkd.in/ecMYXKyn
