"The work of the Chilterns National Landscape citizen science network is inspiring. It’s amazing to see how empowering local volunteers to monitor our rivers not only unlocks a wealth of knowledge but also strengthens the bonds within our communities. I love that anyone can get involved and come together with a shared purpose. It’s a powerful reminder that we can all make a difference and help drive real change for a healthier planet" - Sophie Newboult, Series Development Manager at Content With Purpose. Our food systems increasingly rely on groundwater, a resource that is both invisible and rapidly declining. While the long road to groundwater sustainability is difficult, reducing our irrigated footprint can positively transform landscapes and rural communities. Initiatives like California’s land repurposing program highlight the potential for repurposed farmland to benefit people and ecosystems alike. As EDF’s Ann Hayden says, “we need to embrace what this means not just for our relationship with all the water we can’t see, but also for the beautiful, potent land we have the privilege to live with every day.” https://lnkd.in/gCxnUn59

A dose of optimism for lake and coastal spaces and communities in #NovaScotia. In a city committee meeting today, the presenter of "The Framework for Integrated Watershed Management" says: "We're really fortunate in HRM that there is a lot of folks who are doing this [lake monitoring] work often as volunteers in their spare time and they are often the folks doing the most and the highest quality work in the HRM. We want to support them." We couldn't agree more. Now, its time to give them the tools they need to make the most of their time, effort, and data. Set up projects for each lake to monitoring biodiversity, social values, and threats in eOceans. **Go to 1:16:30 to see the beginning of the Framework for Integrated Watershed Management. #Optimism #dartmouth #lake #blueeconomy https://lnkd.in/gXgPiQHR

'Land repurposing', or simply land-use change away from uses that are inconsistent with long term sustainability, is an important and under-utilised tool. Successful implementation requires strong engagement with the rural communities involved so that their deep local knowledge is incorporated and they can thrive with the change. Our food systems increasingly rely on groundwater, a resource that is both invisible and rapidly declining. While the long road to groundwater sustainability is difficult, reducing our irrigated footprint can positively transform landscapes and rural communities. The #WaterStewardship space is moving fast! SCS Standards developed a certification standard for Water Stewardship and Resiliency It aims to 1. Stimulate nature-based and innovative technology solutions towards increasing water resiliency and resource management 2. Encourage organizations to engage with their surrounding communities, and 3. Promote transparency by communicating an organization’s impact on the environment and progress over time To incentivise leadership, their standard also has a special recognition for trailblazers in the following categories: Nature-Based Solutions Innovative Technologies Natural Habitat and Biodiversity Impacts Net-Zero Water Net-Positive Water Water Circularity Water Quality Community Development They just opened a public consultation, so if you'd like a sneak peak and offer some advice on how to shape it better, you can do so until April 26, 2024 You can request a copy of the standard by emailing: standards@scsstandards.org I just requested my copy and I'm curious to read more about it. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Lauren Kenyon Enright. She worked on it and is also an alumni of the Water Risk Assessment Certification 😀 #watermanagement #waterpollution #watersolutions #bestpractice #sustainabledevelopment #sustainablefinance #geopolitics #waterpollutionawareness #impactinvestment #sustainability #watercrisis #waterrisk Victoria Norman, Alexis Morgan, Rylan Dobson, Scott McCready, Stuart Orr, Will Sarni

🌍 Monday, April 22, is #EarthDay, a time to reflect on the importance of environmental conservation and #sustainability and raise awareness about the need to protect our natural resources. 💧 Water. The liquid of life. Those of us living in the United States and other first-world countries have come to take this resource for granted. We have perpetual access to what feels like an unlimited supply of fresh drinkable water. However, we must remember that this is one of the planet’s most valuable resources and it’s scarcer than we might think.
