The Guild welcomes the position of the European #Research and #Innovation Committee (#ERAC) on #FP10 adopted last week and its call to keep excellence and transnational collaboration as the cornerstones of the framework programme. Many recommendations of the EU ministries of science echo ours, especially: ⭐ FP10 to fund R&I only, while increasing synergies with other EU programmes, for instance, to accelerate the deployment of new technologies and build capacities in #KnowledgeValorisation. 🔎 Leverage the curiosity and expertise of #researchers to ensure the future-proof #competitiveness and resilience of Europe. This implies making challenge-oriented calls less prescriptive and keeping funding for curiosity-driven research, including through the European Research Council (ERC) and the Marie Curie-Skłodowska Actions. ⚖ Strive for a better balance in funding between #FundamentalResearch and closer-to-market R&D activities, including by introducing ‘research actions’ to fund collaborative fundamental research projects. 🖇 Focus on national investment and reform efforts in #Widening countries coupled by effective use of Cohesion funds. Clear that more data is needed to assess existing instruments in order to support the most successful ones in FP10. 🌐 Enhance collaboration with third countries to strengthen the role of Europe as a global R&I powerhouse with strategic partners in #Africa and beyond. This implies encouraging global collaboration while supporting institutions’ appraisal and management of potential risks. However, The Guild wishes ERAC had taken a stronger position for an ambitious and stable budget for FP10. Orla Feely (President of CESAER and President of University College Dublin): "We are proud to be part of the ongoing efforts to enhance the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, a flagship funding instrument for doctoral and postdoctoral training. The MSCA's unique approach of providing direct support to researchers yields immediate benefits to individuals and creates long-term, system-wide benefits. However, many high-scoring, excellent proposals remain unfunded due to budget constraints. We call on the EU institutions to agree on, at least, a doubling of the budget for FP10, including a substantial boost of the budget for MSCA." 👇 https://lnkd.in/ehB4vew8

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 Recently, Assistant Professor Rico Krueger from our group received the prestigious European Research Council Starting Grant for his project, IMMERSION: Explaining Human Decision-Making by Combining Choice and Process Data! Over the five-year duration of the IMMERSION project, Rico and his team will establish a novel framework to understand and predict human behavior in hypothetical and futuristic scenarios. This includes developing new models that integrate choice and process data, designing new statistical inference procedures tailored to these models, and creating innovative methods for collecting rich behavioral data through immersive experiments using extended reality. The project will also involve extensive empirical work, with significant implications for human-centered design in future transport and infrastructure systems. The European Research Council (ERC) recently announced the award of 494 Starting Grants, distributing nearly €780 million to young scientists and scholars across Europe. This ERC funding is part of the EU Horizon Europe programme, supporting cutting-edge research across diverse fields. The ERC is Europe's premier funding body for frontier research, offering grants to researchers of all nationalities and ages across the continent. Out of 3,474 proposals evaluated by peer-review panels composed of internationally renowned researchers, 14.2% were selected for funding, highlighting the significance and quality of these projects. Huge congratulations to Rico! 🌟 Visit our website: https://lnkd.in/dvzjcdEz Intelligent Transportation Systems @ DTU - Technical University of Denmark #ERC #HorizonEurope #Research #Innovation #ITS #DTU

Reimagining university rankings: exploring strategic priorities and alternatives, our report is out! 🆕 Today, the leading universities of science and technology united within CESAER, released a new report titled ‘Reimagining university rankings: exploring strategic priorities and alternatives’. The report builds on the joint workshop of our Board of Directors and Task Force Benchmark which took place on 18 June 2024, kindly hosted by KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Led by our Task Force Benchmark, this publication provides recommendations to enhance transparency, equity, and accountability in commercial university rankings. It advocates for adopting responsible evaluation frameworks and encourages universities of science and technology to consider endorsing the ’More Than Our Rank’ initiative, as well as frameworks such as CoARA, DORA, and the Leiden Manifesto. The workshop report features contributions from Paul Boselie (Chief of Open Science, Utrecht University), Manuela Höfler (Co-Director of the Open Science Office, University of Zürich), and Rüdiger Mutz (Senior Researcher, University of Zurich), who shared insights into their respective universities' strategic decision not to submit data to commercial rankers. Ludo Waltman (Scientific Director at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies, CWTS, Leiden University) presented the new Open Edition of the CWTS Leiden Ranking.
