Sustainable Infrastructure Assessment 🔍 Amphora Consulting were recently engaged to evaluate the potential for repurposing an existing reinforced concrete slab foundation. Through on-site forensic assessment and structural load capacity analysis, we verified that the slab’s condition for re-use. In line with our commitment to sustainable design, we quantified the embodied carbon savings associated with reusing the existing structure, initially focusing on the cradle-to-gate phase (A1-A3). We were able to demonstrated an embodied carbon reduction of 11.7 tCO₂e, when compared to constructing a new foundation. Our in-house materials testing and structural engineering teams collaborated seamlessly on this project, exemplifying Amphora Consulting’s dedication to integrating net zero principles into our everyday practices. #NetZero #SustainableInfrastructure #Material testing #StructuralAssessment #AmphoraConsulting #CarbonReduction #ResponsibleDesign

🌍 Sustainability in Structural Engineering A big thank you to Pinnacle Consulting Engineers Ltd for an insightful CPD session on sustainability in structural engineering. We had the privilege of hearing from experts Dimitris Elliniadis, Stephen Southgate, and Andy Carson, who led a thought-provoking discussion on the life cycle of CO², embodied carbon calculations, and innovative methods for reducing CO² in steel and concrete. One key takeaway? Pinnacle’s commitment to “Net Zero from Stage Zero” – a powerful motto guiding their approach to sustainability from the very start. We also explored the efficient use of materials, the potential of low-carbon alternatives, and discussed how crucial it is for engineers to get involved from the early concept design stages and ensure early engagement with the client on setting the CO² targets from the get-go of a project. This helps materialise this more effectively. Once in RIBA stage 3, there is not much room for manoeuvre. The round table discussions and Q&A session added extra depth, leaving us all inspired to push the boundaries of sustainable design. #SustainableEngineering #NetZero #StructuralEngineering #EmbodiedCarbon #LowCarbonFuture #InnovativeDesign

Construction prefabrication can reduce uncertainty and unpredictability with Mother Nature in several ways: Controlled Environment: In a controlled factory environment, prefabrication minimizes the influence of external factors, such as weather conditions. Predictable Production Schedule: Prefabrication offers a more predictable production schedule, free from weather-related delays, thus facilitating improved project planning and scheduling Quality Assurance: In a factory setting, quality control measures can be more readily implemented and closely monitored. Reduced On-Site Work: Prefabricated components are frequently assembled on-site rather than being constructed from scratch, a process that typically requires less time and is less prone to weather-related disruptions. Material Protection: Prefabricated components are commonly stored in controlled environments prior to being transported to the construction site. Check out this article by Sto Panel Technology #PrefabConstruction #Prefabrication #MKBConstruction #StoPanel #Prefab
What happens on a #construction project when you take Mother Nature out of the equation? You remove plenty of uncertainty and unpredictability with Sto Panel Technology. Find out how #prefabrication changes the construction paradigm, giving rise to greater efficiency and cost savings, in this article from our own Tim Salerno and MKB Construction, Inc.'s Jason Anderson: https://lnkd.in/gK4Rwxd2
