We know that young people are deeply invested in their pursuit of liberation, bringing expansive, joyful, and creative energy into their work. However, this often shrinks when typical grant structures with stringent rules are imposed before they get funded for the important work they are leading in their communities. Interesting webinar coming tomorrow 7/23 from Chronicle of Philanthropy "As inflation jacked up household costs in recent years, some Americans had to tighten their purse strings. Others stopped giving years ago, as nonprofits zeroed in on major donors after the 2008 financial crisis — to offset recession losses more quickly. This shift left many small donors feeling like their gifts didn’t matter. Now, fundraisers are rethinking their approach to middle-class donors. While some may be gone for good, others are proving responsive to new messages and channels of communication. Join the Chronicle and our panel of experts to explore strategies to reignite giving by everyday donors and shore up your organization’s financial future." https://lnkd.in/ge3uF6vi?

And friends, please also join me in choosing action over apathy by making a gift to POW today, to invest in climate and a healthy planet for generations to come. Plus, POW partner KEEN is matching all donations up to $60k for Giving Tuesday, so your impact will be doubled! Climate and sustainability are currently not policy and voting priorities on both sides. POW aims to change that through persuasion rooted in our collective passion for the outdoors. The audience at Protect Our Winters is 40% Democrats, 31% Republicans, and 29% Independents. Your support will help us unite people around the prosperity and opportunity of clean energy for all. Our work in 2025+ will focus on state-level climate action, power-building at the community level, and mobilizing future voters at the margins. At POW, we aim to be a unifying force—turning outdoor passion into clean air, clean water, and sustainable natural places for play. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/e5U62W99

There are two things that we know for sure. The first? ✅ There are many individuals, families and organisations that wish to give back to their communities. The second? ✅ There are many, many organisations that need support. Theoretically, this means that organisations get the support they need, and generous people are giving back in ways that are close to their hearts and responsive to the challenges faced by our communities. However, this isn’t always the case. Why? There’s a disconnect. Often generous people want to give but aren’t sure how, or to whom. They may have a cause close to their hearts but aren’t sure about the organisations doing good mahi in their area of interest. They may be motivated to give but aren’t sure about where their generosity will make the most impact. That’s where Nikau comes in. With deep connections to our communities, we act as a conduit between local generosity and local need. We work alongside donors to connect them with causes close to their hearts while sharing knowledge on priority funding areas so generous individuals can give in a way that is meaningful and impactful. By working in this way, we are bringing generosity and need together. And making sure that individuals can give in a way that is meaningful for them, while directing funding to organisations doing good mahi on the ground. We’re decreasing the disconnect. It’s a win: win.

'Will you give like BP this year?' was the most read article on my website this year. How we can frame our giving differently to ourselves and our donors? And be more like Sackler or BP with headline grabbing numbers. As we approach a new year, a fresh start to think about our own giving, how could you give more like BP in 2025... 💬 What does it take to break the cycle of inequity? It takes bold, place-based strategies that bring families, schools, nonprofits, donors, and civic leaders together to co-create change. At Marin Promise Partnership, we’re launching a place-based approach to address inequities at their roots and build thriving places where every child has the opportunity to succeed—no matter their zip code. 👉 Read our CEO's (Richard Raya) latest blog to see how we’re working with partners to make this vision a reality: https://lnkd.in/gpXwZJb4
