Three years after a tetchy and difficult debate with Malcolm Byrne on RTE Today with Claire Byrne, it’s clear that the brain drain from the South East is as severe as ever. South East Technological University has been left to navigate a complex merger without the resources to fully integrate and grow. Despite political promises, there’s been no investment in new buildings, and only two of the 25 much-needed new courses have been announced. Most disappointingly, the long-awaited PPP/Engineering building as well as the Science and Health Building which would enable SETU to expand, has been effectively cancelled by this government—yet again, the second time in 20 years. South East Technological University is a great place to study, research and work- it delivers for its 8,500 degree students. If only politicians would resource us to deliver for the 13,000 who leave for Dublin, Cork and Limerick. In this election, it is time for genuine investment and commitment to SETU's €350m capital plan (2023-2028) as the catalyst to grow and sustain our region. 2021 Interview here: https://lnkd.in/e5HGM_Px #HigherEducation #SETU #SouthEastIreland #EconomicDevelopment
