Alright, y'all, if you're watching this, this is the last day for early voting and it's also our last video. Let's get it. Hey, I'll what's up? It's your girl Gia. And I am the founder and executive director for an amazing nonprofit called Thrive Liberation Community Center. Thrives mission is to focus in create a safe haven for Black people ages 13 to 32. Gather, learn, heal in B and we are on the last ballot breakdown. And you might be wondering, we've pretty much covered. The entire ballot, but there's still a couple of things that we have on there and that includes a couple of bond referendums as well as one specific referendum and change to our state constitution. So let's get in, alright, y'all? So we're first going to be voting on or talking about voting on House Bill 1074. And that is a constitutional amendment that would change language regarding the voting here in North Carolina. All right, as it currently states in the Constitution. Of North Carolina it says that any person that is born in the United States or is a naturalized citizen. What is on the table to change is that only a citizen of the United States 18 years of age can vote here in this in the state. So why does this matter? We all know language is important and the interpretation of said language will also make a difference and set precedent. But we it is safe to note that it is illegal to vote in the state of North Carolina. And I would bet any state if you are not a citizen of our country, right? I think we are pretty clear on that. So this language is very specific and like I said, it could set precedent for any interpretation in the future. All right, y'all, the last three things we have on the ballot are bonds. So the first is the transportation bond, the second is a neighborhood bond, and then the third is a housing bond. So the transportation bond is $238.3 million and it focuses on things like alleviating traffic, sidewalk improvement, improving different streets in the in the city of Charlotte. The second is a neighborhood bond and it focuses on investing in specific corridors. Opportunity, promoting public transportation and changing some infrastructure. And last but not least, the housing bond. It focuses on creating affordable housing and it is worth $100 million. So why are these bonds important? As we know, money is needed to make our city great, right? And they are asking for this money from our taxes now for some people. We don't know taxes could, could make or break their vote, but it is important that you all know that the increase is minimal. The increase is about a dollar for. A dollar per $100,000 assessed in a house for the transportation bond, $1.30 for the per 100,000 in the housing bond, and then the neighborhood bond is $202.50 sorry for per $100,000. So these bonds could improve our neighborhoods, but they always come at a cost. And that's why it's important that you do the research and decide whether or not that fits for you and your money.
