A national survey of over 7,000 pre-hospital agencies by EMSC Innovation and Improvement Center found that the average pediatric readiness score is just 62%. Improving pediatric readiness should be a priority for all EMS agencies. Having the right tools on hand is essential. ‼️ Exciting news! The Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, Mark Butler, announced a major $50.1 million funding boost for JDRF’s Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Research Network (T1DCRN) at the JDRF ‘Kids in the House’ event at Parliament House, Canberra, this week.‼️ This represents an historic occasion for the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) community. Our Team VIVA! is thrilled to have played a role in helping JDRF to secure government funding through a comprehensive video production stakeholder campaign, to empower the T1DCRN to keep advancing vital breakthroughs in T1D research. We extend our heartfelt thanks to JDRF’s dedicated advocates, who have worked tirelessly to engage with decision-makers Australia-wide, & to share their experiences of living with T1D, while reinforcing the importance of research “holding the key” to a cure for T1D. Their efforts have proved fundamental to securing this fabulous outcome. 📣 PRACTICE CHANGING UPDATE 🏥 In a retrospective study of 85,599 sedations recorded in the Pediatric Sedation Research Consortium database, preprocedural oxygenation was not associated with reduced need for airway/breathing/circulation intervention during sedation. Potential harms of preoxygenation include delayed recognition of hypoventilation and increased anxiety/discomfort related to administration of oxygen in children.
