Meet the PINK Partners - EMIRI Created in 2012, EMIRI – the Energy Materials Industrial Research Initiative – represents about 60 organizations (industry, research, associations) active in Advanced Materials Technologies for clean and sustainable energy & mobility. The association contributes to industrial leadership of developers, producers and key users of advanced materials by shaping innovation, manufacturing and energy policy framework at European level. Since the publication of the Materials 2030 Manifesto in February 2022, EMIRI together with EUMAT - EUROPA MATERIALS, SusChem ETP and Manufuture ETF (European Technology Platform), with the support of the Materials 2030 Manifesto signatories and of the European Commission, has been steering the Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative (Advanced Materials 2030 Initiative) and preparing the setting up of the European co-programmed partnership on Innovative Advanced Materials (#IM4EU). The ambition of this partnership is to establish and maintain a cross-sectorial, multidisciplinary, collaborative Europe-wide Research and Innovation ecosystem that will significantly accelerate the time-to-market of sustainable innovative advanced materials (IAMs) and associated technologies designed for a digital circular economy. The New Zealand Government recently confirmed that funding previously allocated to the GIDI Fund (the Government Investment in Decarbonising Industry Fund), allocated by EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority), has been withdrawn and reprioritised. This means that all programmes which were allocated GIDI funding have been cancelled. As at 1 Feb 2024 119 projects had been co-funded and 40 projects were complete or in commissioning. The government had committed $350m of co-funding to the programme, with businesses matching this with over $1.1b. The annual CO₂ abatement of co-funded projects was 1.8m tonnes, and the lifetime abatement was 26m tonnes. GIDI is not the only source of funding for EECA and the organisation remains committed to working with the market on decarbonization, energy transition and energy efficiency.
