Last week, multiple members of our packaging, commercial and resource efficiency teams attended the Resource & Waste Management Expo (RWM Expo). We enjoyed immersing ourselves in the latest industry trends, and contributing to key conversations with two of our team members delivering thought-provoking talks.   We kicked off with “The Progress of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)” panel sponsored by Valpak Limited, where Catherine Guy delved into the evolving responsibilities of producers in the sustainability ecosystem. Then Christopher Smith CRWM sparked dialogue around cutting-edge technology on the panel topic; “The Environmental Services AI Revolution: Are You On Board?”. It was highly valuable to discuss these essential subjects alongside thought leaders from WRAP, Biffa, Greyparrot, Wasterobotic, The Environmental Services Association and The Industry Council for Packaging & the Environment.    These sessions underscored a pivotal theme: Collaboration is essential in our journey towards a circular economy. The European Commission's Bioeconomy Strategy is set to supercharge the deployment of a sustainable European bioeconomy with 5 key goals: 🌾 Ensure food and nutrition security 🌱 Manage natural resources sustainably 🔋 Reduce dependence on non-renewable, unsustainable resources 🌍 Limit and adapt to climate change 💼 Strengthen European competitiveness and create jobs This strategy is crucial to the European Green Deal and supports industrial, circular economy, and clean energy innovation strategies. Together, they emphasize the importance of a sustainable, circular bioeconomy for achieving these objectives. Aligned with this vision, the LCA4Bio Project aims to develop robust assessment methodologies for Bio-based Systems (BbS) to ensure environmental sustainability.
