In November, TRG facilitators Mary Njenga Murimi, Norah Bwaya (PhD), MCC and Jawara Lumumba led the USAID Tanzania Mission in a two day all staff retreat in Dar Es Saleem. To design the retreat, the TRG team gathered input through individual and focus group interviews as well as a Mission-wide survey. Informed by what we learned, the retreat included time for participants to engage in team building learning activities and strategic planning sessions.Through these activities, the staff were able to determine concrete actions to enhance trust, morale, communication, and performance management and lay the foundation for their continued success in the future.

On Saturday 10th August, 2024, I had the privilege of attending the Institute of Chartered Governance mentorship session at on Personal Development facilitated by Mr.Godwin Otim, an HR Specialist under the Institute of Corporate Governance- Uganda at Naguru sky Hotel. My key takeaways from the session included: 1. Learn to have personal effectiveness in all tasks assigned to you. 2. Write down your 5 priorities and actively work towards them daily. 3. Average people dedicate a lot of time to hyper distraction activities while high performing individuals dedicate their time to hyperfocus. 4. Positive energy enlarges your circle of influence. 5. Amateurs practice until they get it right. Professionals practice until they cannot play it wrong. The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland, The Chartered Governance Institute UK - Ireland. Yesterday marked the start of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. In 2024 it's observed from Sunday March 10th until Tuesday 9th April. Last year New Dawn Resources Ltd reflected on the importance for co-workers and managers to be aware of the challenges that this can place on our Muslim colleagues. Supporting colleagues during Ramadan is not only a gesture of goodwill, but also essential for maintaining productivity, morale, and inclusivity in the workplace. Why not visit our blog from last year, or review our main advisories during the coming 30 days. * Encourage open communication: Encourage employees to communicate openly about their religious observance during Ramadan. * Provide education: Educate line managers and colleagues about Ramadan to foster understanding and respect for the practices and traditions. * Be flexible with working arrangements: Offer flexibility with working hours and consider accommodating requests for time off. * Accommodate prayer needs: Provide private prayer spaces for employees to observe their religious practices. *Consider condensed work hours: Allow for condensed work schedules to accommodate fasting and prayer times. #ramadan2024 #ramadan #businessmanagement #hr #humanresources #hradvice #workforce #teamleaders #hrbusinesspartner

Day 6 of PeerSphere Non-Teaching Staff Conference (NTSC): Fantastic keynote by Derek Luebbe packed full of insights on shared goals for evaluations at Shanghai Community International School Pudong. My takeaways: - Move away from exhaustive job descriptions that say little about the dynamic requirements of a modern workplace. - Mutually develop the goals and evaluation metrics to take account of each role within the organisation. - Just get started! Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
