I’d like to take a few moments to summarize this series about ‘investigative reporting.’ I called it ‘Investigative Reporting 101’ because I view each part as a journalism professor might view the first year of teaching the subject in a college setting. #journalism #investigative #investigation #reporters #journalists https://lnkd.in/eR3A8gEs

For some reason, walking home from the bodega tonight, I remembered a conversation I had when I was up for a journalism professorship years ago. I talked with the hiring committee about how young reporters needed to understand the trust that was being placed in them by their sources & to operate with the requisite humility in the places they were working and be conscious of how much they didn't in fact know. "We're not in the business of teaching humility," one committee member said. "Maybe you should be," I responded. It goes without saying I didn't get the job, but I stil believe in a profession so often tarnished by self-aggrandizement and big egos, that's still one of the most important lessons veteran journalists can impart to younger ones.

A smart and important read from Ryan Y. Kellett for Nieman Journalism Lab about creator journalism and the future of Audience teams in newsrooms.
2025 Nieman-Berkman Klein Fellow @Harvard | Previously exec at Axios, Washington Post | Editorial leader, product strategist, and sustainable digital growth expert
I posted this last week and Annemarie commented with, "Say it louder." Welp, turns out I deleted that post accidentally! Kinda the opposite. So this is me saying it louder... my 2025 Nieman Journalism Lab prediction! If you have thoughts or are working in the creator journalism space, drop me a line: ryan dot kellett at gmail.
