For the last 5-6 months I have been meeting once a month with a team of leaders from the APAC IDEXX region as part of the latest cohort in the High Performance Leaders program. We were challenged by Kurt Wrigley from Leading Teams, to really dig into who we are as a leader, how we push ourselves to grow and develop, how we use that understanding of personal self to better those and the business around us and I honestly found it illuminating. I've known who I am as a leader for many years, it has shaped all of the choices I've made in leadership. But, in the past year or two that leadership element within me has been changing. The things I knew to be categorically true to me and my true self is not what it used to be. Not that it was wrong, but as I've evolved, as the leadership roles I undertake evolve, the way I need to lead also has to evolve. One thing that will always remain is that I'm not afraid to be who I am. Sometimes it's loved, sometimes it's hated, some times it's mocked, but being true to who you are and allowing it to shape how you lead honestly, how you learn from your mistakes and own it is where true grit and longevity in leadership comes from. I am thankful for leaders at ProPetro Services, Inc like Theodore " Ted " Jones and Zack Hernandez for investing in the leadership and career development of the team. What that looked like yesterday was a day at the Wagner Nöel Performing Arts Center for the Sewell Leadership Event, a day of powerful and inspirational leadership development. Dr. John Maxwell taught us the Distraction Dance. This two-step is a reminder that we must be intentional with what we put behind us and what we put before us. Placing the wrong thing in front of us produces distraction. Placing the right thing in front of us produces traction. This is important to get right because what we focus on expands. Dr. Henry Cloud taught about the five essential ingredients required for trust-building (I wish he had nine points; then we would've all been on Cloud Nine). Listening to understand, right motives, competency, character, and a proven track record are all essential to building trust. From Jesse Cole, founder and owner of the Savannah Bananas, we learned the Five E's to Creating Raving Fans. From Jesse we also learned that "normal" produces normal results, but success comes through differentiating. But you know what really stuck with me? It's the power of "reps." Dr. Maxwell has delivered over 13,000 speeches and sermons. This was a reminder to me that daily quality reps of valuable habits compound over time to produce prolific growth, an elite level of greatness, and monumental influence. Custard creams and leadership... Just chatting to the lovely Nicola Oates (MCIPD) about LI posts and that inspiration can come from all sorts of places. I flippantly said that I could probably make a tenuous link with leadership and custard creams if I had to. So here goes: Buy some custard creams, grab a cuppa and have a chat with your team members, see how they are, ask what's going well and what's not, provide some space for people to think and talk - they are likely to feel greater belonging, connection will be improved and trust will be built or reinforced. So, what actually IS an inclusive leader? 🤔 An inclusive leader has a high degree of emotional intelligence - specifically self- and social awareness. That self- and social awareness translates into daily inclusive behaviors. Sound vague!? It certainly would be if we stopped there. Specificity and intentionality are extremely important to ensure inclusive leadership development results are not vague, but rather tangible and impactful. At UpAll, we leverage ongoing self- and peer assessments to understand all of the domains and competencies under things like "self- and social awareness" and "inclusive behaviors" to provide clarity to what an inclusive leader is and motivate each leader to take specific action. That's how we can empower leaders to truly become the inclusive leader they want to be.

Compassionate leadership is a powerful force. When leaders genuinely care about their team members, it fosters a positive work environment. Compassionate leaders build trust by actively listening, understanding challenges, and supporting their team. This psychological safety encourages open communication and risk-taking. Leaders who show empathy recognize that employees have lives beyond work. They consider well-being, work-life balance, and mental health. Compassion motivates employees. Feeling valued and understood leads to higher engagement and commitment. Compassionate leaders handle conflicts with empathy, seeking win-win solutions rather than blame. A positive work environment boosts productivity and encourages creative thinking, leadership isn’t just about tasks, it’s about people.
