The safety of the trucks on European roads is in the spotlight after Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks today revealed the first set of results for its brand-new TRUCK SAFE assessment programme. This is the very first time that heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) have been tested for safety. Out of nine trucks assessed, Volvo Trucks FH Aero and FM models both earned a maximum five-star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating, while IVECO’s current S-WAY model emerged as the weakest performer with one ⭐ star. As part of its mission to achieve Vision Zero (eliminating all traffic fatalities and serious injuries), Euro NCAP has turned its testing and safety performance attention to the HGV vehicle category for the first time. The organisation has been helping to drive up safety standards by evaluating and rating the active and passive safety performance of passenger cars for close to 30 years, and launched a similar rating scheme for Light Commercial Vehicles in 2020. Because of their size and weight (gross combination mass of over 3,500 kg), HGV crashes are the most severe on European roads. Although trucks account for less than 3% of the traffic fleet in Europe, they are responsible for 15% of accident fatalities. Furthermore, only 11% of casualties in accidents involving HGVs are truck occupants. The remaining 89% are car and van occupants, as well as Vulnerable Road Users https://lnkd.in/d4wFp__R 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭: https://lnkd.in/df8UTnee #trucksafety #europesroads #euroncap #trucksafe #hgvtesting #roadsafety #visionzero #heavydutyvehicles #volvotrucks #ivecotrucks #trafficfatalities #safertrucks #vulnerableroadusers #vehicleratings

Automatic emergency braking systems will be required on all "light" vehicles -- passenger cars and trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds or less -- by 2029. While there is no timetable for when AEBs will be required on trucks, attorney Dave Chludzinski writes that the day is coming nonetheless. Check out his article on the possibility of AEBs in trucks: https://lnkd.in/eb9UHK-h #transportation #AEB #trucking

Euro NCAP launches assessment programme focusing on Heavy Goods Vehicle safety This week, the Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks launched their new #TruckSafeAssessmentProgramme, which tests the safety performance of #HeavyGoodsVehicles (#HGV). The goal is to raise the safety level of trucks and to provide the market with a ranking tool for procurement processes. Initially, the two areas which are tested are related to #SafeDriving and #CollisionAvoidance. For safe driving, driver assistance systems such as speed assistance, seat belt reminders, and visibility for the driver are evaluated. What regards Collision Avoidance, protection systems such as lane keeping aid and automatic emergency brake (AEB) are tested, both for collisions with unprotected road users and passenger cars. Our colleague Rikard Fredriksson has, together with other dedicated colleagues at the Euro NCAP - For Safer Cars, Vans & Trucks, worked hard to make this happen. Rikard highlights that HGVs are overrepresented in fatal crashes on our roads: HGVs only represent about six percent of the traffic volume, but they are involved in about 20 percent of the road traffic fatalities. In most cases the trucks do not cause the crash, but their mass and size make their involvement in crashes far more significant. https://lnkd.in/djfSr868

Why are truck accidents so destructive and on the rise?🤔 Trucks (also known as commercial motor vehicles) can weigh 20 to 30 times more than passenger cars! 😲 Commercial motor vehicles are also taller with greater ground clearance that can result in smaller passenger vehicles under-riding semitrucks in accidents! 😫 Commercial truck braking capabilities are also an issue. 🤦🏽♀️ A loaded tractor-trailer takes 20% to 40% more distance to stop than a passenger car! 👈 #safety #trucking #transportation #truckdrivers #cdldrivers #drivers

Are you certain about the classification of your company's pickup trucks as commercial motor vehicles (CMVs)? 🚚 The notion that a company pickup truck might be a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) may seem highly unlikely to some. But, an examination of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) could very well reveal that some smaller fleet vehicles qualify as regulated CMVs. Visit our website to learn how to determine if your company pickup truck is a CMV and what to do if it is. https://cc94.co/3J7CixG #trucking #trucker #TruckDriver #Truck #DOT #Compliance
