Do you feel the burdens of being a lawyer?
How can you be the best advocate for your clients when you have to balance your own life issues?
Being a lawyer is not easy.
It does not always seem practical or fair to compartmentalize your own life’s traumas even though your clients demand your full attention.
Yet, that is exactly what we, lawyers, are expected to do.
As this year’s president of Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, lawyer well-being is one of my initiatives.
As president, I was lucky to be invited to a dinner hosted by Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers, Massachusetts, an organization dedicated to helping the legal community thrive and respond positively to challenges that disproportionately impact the profession.
There, we heard from our Chief Judge of the Supreme Judicial Court, Kimberly Budd.
Our State’s highest court advocates for the well-being of our lawyers because to not do so, may deprive us of the benefit of our best and brightest.
If you are a lawyer struggling with serious health issues that are exacerbated and/or caused by the way law is practiced, I implore you to seek help.
Seeking help is not a weakness.
Being vulnerable, and overcoming adversity is heroic.
Great organizations like this help lawyers navigate the challenges of life.
We are lucky to have the resources provided.
Please know, you are supported.
You are heard.
We are here for you.
Don’t struggle alone.
Don’t deprive us or your clients of the benefit of your legal mind, your compassion and your exceptional service.
If you know someone struggling, please share this post with them.
