Ultratech Cement, a leading cement manufacturer in India, has announced plans to add 100 more electric vehicles (EVs) to its logistics fleet. This move is part of the company's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and transition to sustainable transportation.   The addition of these new EVs will take Ultratech's total EV fleet to 150 trucks, making it one of the largest EV truck fleets in India's cement industry. This is a significant step towards achieving the company's sustainability goals, which include reducing its carbon footprint by 25% by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050. By transitioning to EVs, Ultratech aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions and lower its operating costs. EVs consume less energy than traditional diesel-powered trucks, which will help the company reduce its energy expenses. Additionally, EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, which will improve air quality and contribute to a cleaner environment.   Ultratech had initially introduced 50 EV trucks in its logistics operations in 2020, and the success of this pilot project has encouraged the company to expand its EV fleet. The company is deploying 100 EV trucks to transport clinker along a 400-km route between its facilities in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This move is part of UltraTech’s ambitious plan to integrate 500 EV trucks by next June under the Government’s eFAST initiative. By switching from fossil fuel-based trucks to EVs, UltraTech is set to reduce transport emissions by 17,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, a significant step toward its net-zero goal by 2050.
