Irena, one of our amazing housing support workers, is on a mission this Christmas to help support our residents through what can often be a difficult time of the year. Thanks to the generosity of many of our staff and supporters, Irena has started collecting donations to ensure those who are experiencing homelessness can give a gift to their loved ones this festive period ❄️🎁 Financial difficulties sadly mean that some of the people we support are unable to spend money on gifts for the people they love the most - no matter how much they would like to. Many of the people Irena supports are parents who face the heartbreaking reality of being unable to give their children a present this Christmas. We’d hugely appreciate anyone who wants to support Irena’s appeal to donate any suitable gifts to Byker Bridge House on Wilfred Street, Byker. We’d particularly welcome children’s toys, shower and bath sets, essential baby items, child and adult board games, and other, more sentimental gifts. We would also gladly receive other items that would benefit those who are currently experiencing homelessness including warm clothes, sleeping bags, blankets, hats and gloves. These can be dropped off at the Joseph Cowen Centre again on Wilfred Street. From all of us at Tyne, we hope you have a happy holiday season ⛄

Christmas is a time for coming together, celebrating with loved ones, and spreading joy. But it's important to remember……. that Christmas can be a difficult time for some. Not everyone has family to celebrate with; some may be estranged from loved ones or prefer to be alone. This Christmas, let's be mindful of those around us and extend a helping hand to those in need. Check-in on your elderly neighbours who may be alone, volunteer at a local charity or donate to a cause that supports those experiencing homelessness. Even small acts of kindness can go a long way in making this time of year a little brighter for someone. In the hustle and bustle of the season, let's remember to be grateful for what we have and extend kindness to those who are less fortunate. ❤️ Invite a neighbour who is alone over for dinner. 💚 Donate to a local food bank or homeless shelter. ❤️ Volunteer your time at a soup kitchen or other charity. 💚 Simply offer a smile and a kind word to someone struggling. ❤️ Let's make this Christmas a time of unity and compassion, where everyone feels included and valued. Please add to the list of ideas of how we can make this season a little brighter for all.

As winter approaches, Dismas House is committed to providing warm clothing and supplies to our unhoused neighbors. Did you know? - 1 in 10 people experiencing homelessness need additional clothing to keep warm during the cold months - In South Bend alone, over 500 individuals face homelessness, often without proper winter clothing - Lack of adequate clothing can lead to serious health risks, like hypothermia and frostbite. The CDC reports that exposure-related deaths disproportionately affect those without stable housing We’re making our final push for clothing donations before winter sets in. If you want to help, please donate warm clothing items at one of these locations: - Dismas House (currently collecting winter gear) - South Bend Community Center These items can make a big difference in someone's life as temperatures drop. We aren't accepting year-round donations, but with our ongoing clothes and supply drive for our unhoused neighbors, now is the perfect time to lend a hand. We all deserve a memorable holiday season. #endhomelessness

DONT DO NOTHING - JUST DO SOMETHING !!! Did anyone notice the drop in temperatures this weekend? It’s getting colder. Please do something worthwhile this winter !!! 👉THE FACTS Our experience informs us that people who are homeless are woefully and inadequately prepared for this weather. It’s usually a duvet without a sheet, or a small blanket, or even if they do have a sleeping bag its often too small or exceptionally thin. The homeless get what they need from drop ins and shelters. Many homeless people have families, and children. Someday they will want to reconcile with them. With your help, they may one day be able to. 👉WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP? - Refer them. Organisations like ourselves are here to help. We want to make a difference to their lives and try and get them the support that they need for a brighter future. - Find your nearest homelessness charity and ask them if they take sleeping bags, suitcases, backpacks, tents etc. If you have then please donate them and then let your local guys on the street know where you’ve donated so they can go pick it up. - Do you have a spare backpack and if so could you fill it up with useful items like toiletries, hats, gloves, scarves and jumpers. - Go out and say hello. Buy them a warm drink and talk to them. Getting to know what they might need. Homeless people don’t want to be invisible. They want to be seen. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE JUST DO SOMETHING !!!! Each year Crisis at Christmas opens its doors to thousands of people experiencing homelessness. 🎁 https://lnkd.in/ezWt8DB9 Many Salvation Army churches and centres across the UK will be running a Christmas Present Appeal, collecting donated presents until mid-December. You can help us spread the joy of Christmas to families whose children would otherwise not receive a gift. 🥫 https://lnkd.in/eFihN6pD Winter is often the busiest time for food banks in the Trussell community. Last winter, 600,000 food parcels were distributed to people facing hunger and poverty. We expect this year to be just as challenging as more people struggle to afford even the essentials. #GivingBack #Christmas #FoodBanks #MakeADifference

In the UK, rough sleeping has surged by a staggering 27% this year, reaching alarming new highs! This dramatic rise reflects a deepening crisis in homelessness, exacerbated by a range of factors. Currently, around 145,000 children are living in temporary accommodations, highlighting the urgent need for stable housing for families. Meanwhile, rental costs have soared by 8% over the past year, putting additional strain on low-income households and making affordable housing increasingly elusive. At Noah, we’re dedicated to providing essential support and solutions to those affected by homelessness. Our programs offer emergency shelter, vital services, and pathways to long-term stability. But we need your help to continue our work. Your donations are crucial in allowing us to expand our reach and make a tangible difference. Support us in tackling this crisis and giving hope to those in need. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/dFRFVgQJ

I don't want a lot for Christmas There's just one thing I need I don't care about presents Underneath the Christmas tree I just want my own home and not live on the streets. Make my wish come true . Help me tend to my cold feet and dry the freezing water from corrodided feet. Maybe dry socks will save my toes, But who knew giving socks would save another toes? unless they've been there. All I want for Christmas is for people to have clean dry feet in the winter months. please consider sock drive #lndont. Lorraine Gosso. All opinions are mine is a community initiative that happens from October 1st – November 15th each year. The initiative was brought to light to change the conversation around homelessness leading into the colder months of the year. 519Pursuit encourages folks in the community to take the pledge to obtain 519Pursuit pairs of new socks to donate. Each individual or team begins a conversation with their friends, families and networks for six weeks to raise awareness of items and solutions that could support those facing homelessness. The immediate ask in support is a donation of a brand new pair or pack of socks. Throughout the past 6 years we have led successful campaigns by raising over 428,000 pairs of socks. Over the past 6 years these socks have been used to support individuals facing #homelessness and extreme #poverty through community #outreach as well as donated forward to over 80 other community groups, services and shelters from #London – #Toronto. Each year the need for socks becomes more significant. Socks are one of the most asked for items and least thought to be donated. Consider joining The 519Pursuit this fall and taking the pledge to raise 519 pairs of socks. Fill out the form below and register to participate as an individual or as a team. Ensure to click YES to receive emails so you can get your complete #Campaign #ToolKit! #lndont

Happy Monday! Sharing is caring. The holidays are (once again) upon us, and what better way to care for your community than to give to those in need? Hunger hides in plain sight. People who are struggling to feed their families often feel too embarrassed to ask friends and family for help, often looking to the community for support. Most of us reading this post have the means to donate something, even if it is time. Many employers will "donate" by allowing you to volunteer at a local charity during work hours, paying your salary as their donation so that you can lend a helping hand to the community. Inquire with you management team if this is a possibility. If you have never before donated your time, money, or goods to your community or national programs, here are a few popular choices: Popular charities - Toys for Tots - Feeding America - Make-A-Wish-Foundation - Ronald McDonald House - Girls, Inc. - Meals on Wheels - One Simple Wish Local Charities - Food pantries - Children's hospital - Wounded veterans - Single parents - Homeless shelters Let's do all we can to help our fellow humans this holiday season. Giving a little can help a lot. Happy Holidays, everyone.

Giving, no matter how big or small, can create positive change. While the holiday season is a time to feel grateful for all we have, it’s also an opportunity to remember those who may not be as fortunate. Giving back is a beautiful way to spread love and kindness in your community. Here are a few ways to make a difference this season: ➊ Donate items to your local shelter. Take time to sort through your closets and donate clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, books, or essential items like shampoo and toothpaste. If it no longer sparks joy or serves a purpose, pass it along to someone in need. ➋ Donate unopened and unused toys to a local toy drive. Brighten a child’s holiday by donating unopened and unused toys to a local toy drive. ➌ Create a giving tree. A giving tree supports families in need while fostering community connection. Partner with a local shelter to identify families, write their needs on cards, and hang the cards on a tree in a shared space like an office, gym, library, or coffee shop. Invite your community to help make their holiday wishes come true! Let’s make this holiday season about giving back and lifting each other. Happy Giving Tuesday! ❤️

Last week we highlighted a few nonprofits that work with mental health. If you haven't seen those, go check them out! We do realize though, that some people are in physically unsafe places, and mental health has been put on the back burner. In 2023, Habitat for Humanity helped 13.4 million people secure decent and affordable housing. Their Vision is "A world where everyone has a decent place to live." They do this by partnering with the community and volunteers, and helping the homeowner build their home and pay an affordable mortgage. How can we help? Every donation goes towards giving someone a safe place to live. You can also volunteer to help build, or join their advocacy or partnership programs. Physical safety often helps bring mental safety. Let's make the world a better place by giving security to those in need! #habitatforhumanity #greenville #nonprofit

In celebration of Share Your Care Day on September 9, Care Bears, in partnership with The Birthday Party Project, announced a special initiative to bring smiles and joy to children experiencing homelessness. The year-long initiative features Care Bears-themed birthday parties starting in September and continues with monthly Care Bears plush donations throughout the entire year until September 2025. This partnership underscores the Care Bears' enduring commitment to sharing care and making a positive impact in communities across the nation. Share Your Care Day is a day dedicated to acts of kindness and goodwill. On this day, Care Bears fans around the world are encouraged to spread sharing, caring, love, and happiness through small acts of kindness. Whether it’s volunteering, reaching out to someone in need, or simply sharing a smile, Share Your Care Day is about making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time. This year’s Share Your Care Day focuses on hosting birthday celebrations for children who often miss out on this joyful milestone. Through the magic of these parties, children are reminded they are valued and loved. The partnership extends beyond a single day of celebration, unfolding throughout the year to continually support and uplift children facing homelessness. This sustained effort not only highlights the commitment of Care Bears to social responsibility, but it also ensures ongoing support and joy are brought to these children regularly. In addition to the activities in the United States, Care Bears will also extend its caring mission globally. In countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, the Care Bears have launched similar initiatives to celebrate Share Your Care Day, including partnerships with local charities and community groups to maximize their reach and impact in spreading sharing and caring around the world. #pressrelease #toyindustry #news
