To all those who celebrate, we at Tyne hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎄🎉 We want to send a massive thanks to our dedicated staff teams who are continuing to work throughout the holiday season - helping people stay safe and move forward with their lives💙

This holiday season whilst many of us are at home with our loved ones, we want to extend our most heartfelt thanks to our dedicated members of staff who are continuing to support our residents throughout what can be a difficult time of the year for many people. A member of our Westbridge Team, Ellen, reflects on what it means to our residents ⬇️

Competition is hot at Tyne as residents tested their culinary skills against each other in our friendly Ready, Steady, Cook competition 🧑🍳 Our dedicated Sessional Cook has been delivering cookery courses out of our training kitchen, building upon our commitment to improving our learning offer, improving life skills, and inspiring a new wave of chefs amongst Tyne residents. All that time spent in the kitchen paid off, as Simon (our judge for the evening) left with a full belly and a difficult decision to make in crowning a winner. We want to send a massive well done to all residents who took part - we can’t wait for the next one!

2024 in Ouseburn's blue, green & in-between spaces 💚 930 Regular volunteer hours. 💚 1,483 Business volunteer hours. 💚 Business partnerships with One Utility Bill & Rounton Coffee who each had their first volunteer day. 💚 We planted 1,200 native woodland bulbs through the Newcastle's Nature Networks project, funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by DEFRA & its arm's-length bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England & the Environment Agency. 💚 Our volunteers learnt how to scythe, to restore grassland habitats around the Valley & increase biodiversity. 💚 We received approximately £15,000 in grant funding that went directly into Ouseburn's environment projects, & that's just from us at the Ouseburn Trust. Many other groups & organisations also invested in public spaces & wildlife. 💚 We enjoyed sharing ideas & working with friends & partners including Ouseburn Farm Charity Ltd, Stepney Bank Stables, Wild Intrigue, Tyne Housing, Ouse Burn Way & many more. Thank you to everyone who's contributed to our shared spaces in Ouseburn Valley. Our river, woodland & all those spaces in between are home to a diverse range of wildlife. They provide the backdrop to all the culture & creativity in the Valley. Thank you for your support in keeping it beautiful & healthy. We had a busy day at the Joseph Cowen Health Centre last week with lots of smiling faces thanks to donations from Morrisons and FareShare UK💙 We held a festive feast for visitors, serving delicious meals to 44 people in our community, with one visitor feeding back it was "Lush. Proper belter of a day". Some visitors even managed to grab seconds to take away with them! A special moment of the day was seeing John and his dad together again after being reunited last year through the Centre - enjoying their second Christmas dinner together in a row at Joseph Cowen🎄🍽️

Irena, one of our amazing housing support workers, is on a mission this Christmas to help support our residents through what can often be a difficult time of the year. Thanks to the generosity of many of our staff and supporters, Irena has started collecting donations to ensure those who are experiencing homelessness can give a gift to their loved ones this festive period ❄️🎁 Financial difficulties sadly mean that some of the people we support are unable to spend money on gifts for the people they love the most - no matter how much they would like to. Many of the people Irena supports are parents who face the heartbreaking reality of being unable to give their children a present this Christmas. We’d hugely appreciate anyone who wants to support Irena’s appeal to donate any suitable gifts to Byker Bridge House on Wilfred Street, Byker. We’d particularly welcome children’s toys, shower and bath sets, essential baby items, child and adult board games, and other, more sentimental gifts. We would also gladly receive other items that would benefit those who are currently experiencing homelessness including warm clothes, sleeping bags, blankets, hats and gloves. These can be dropped off at the Joseph Cowen Centre again on Wilfred Street. From all of us at Tyne, we hope you have a happy holiday season ⛄
