This heartwarming and powerful testimonial, told by our beneficiary from Kalangba, #SierraLeone, captures the impact of the 2nd mini-grid built by our grantee, Energicity. Through the Borup project, 1,300 people have gained access to reliable, clean electricity for the first time—unlocking one of the many benefits of electricity: Safety. With this access, households, public services, and small businesses now enjoy greater security and peace of mind. As our mini-grid portfolio expands, we’re on track to transform the lives of 10,000 people across Sierra Leone. Watch the video to see how reliable power is changing lives in unserved communities. A few days ago, we announced the commissioning of our very first mini-grid in the community of Borup, Sierra Leone. The mini-grid now benefits 1,300 people and power households, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and public institutions. ☀ 👩🏫 👨⚕️ The strong commitment demonstrated by the Government of Sierra Leone, local authorities, our grantee Energicity, and the trust of partners has led to the transformation of the community's way of living as we introduced sustainable energy for the first time. We aim to replicate this success across Africa and beyond with our efficient Results-Based Financing (RBF) model, which has proven to be an excellent vehicle to boost the clean energy markets in the countries we operate as we provide a secure mechanism for our funders to invest in socio-economic development. Our second mini-grid will soon be commissioned as we rapidly expand our efforts to accelerate access to clean energy for those in need. 👏 💡 Let's go back in time and watch the highlights of our first commissioning event in Borup. Stay tuned for more updates. ⏲ #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund. What I appreciate about my role is getting the opportunity to visit and see the progress of project sites under the UEF (Universal Energy Facility). But what I appreciate the most is the subsequent impact of the energy access projects on the community! #UEFupdates #ImpactingLives #TowardsNet0 Africa GreenTec
How important is witnessing the tangible success of your project? 👌 🌞 ✨ That's what we did a few weeks ago, when our team visited our mini-grid site in Mahasolo, Madagascar, developed by Africa GreenTec. Many thanks to our key partners: Dieudonne virgiana Dalia Soatsara (Ministry of Energy), VANOMARO Joelinet (ADER), Dennis Waweru Nderitu (GEAPP), Daniela RAKOTOMAMONJY (USAID), and Jasper Härig (GIZ) for exploring first-hand, how solar power improves lives with us. ⚡ We toured this remote village with Managing Director of Africa GreenTec - Moritz Brauchle, about 175 km from the capital, where our shared vision for accelerating universal energy access in Madagascar is taking shape. 💡Mahasolo, once reliant on solar appliances and fuel, is now seeing households, schools, businesses, and health centers electrified through Africa GreenTec’s 148 kWh mini-grid. 📸🙌 Pictured below is Sithembile Khumalo at the Mvundla solar minigrid that supplies power to her community. Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) installed a 35KW plant to provide clean energy access, boost the local economy, and help Sithembile and other women reduce the amount of time spent on household chores such as fetching firewood to focus on more income-generating activities. Alongside the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy (MNRE), the Africa Minigrids Program is supporting the project to expand the benefits of minigrids by reducing costs, making them more financially viable, and attracting commercial investment. Energy access is a fundamental human right given its critical role in various facets of human development. It is a key socioeconomic driver that when present, promotes the well-being of a community or society. It is therefore encouraging to witness the global acknowledgement and appreciation of the importance of electricity, particularly in developing countries where access is nonexistent or unreliable. According to Ejike Ndumbuizu from #Nigeria, their reliance on unreliable and costly diesel-run power systems, drove them to look into alternative energy sources. And there was no better option than the abundant sunshine! 🌟 ☀ He says they are working with #DarwayCoast, a UEF grantee, to harness the solar power potential in Nigeria which is estimated to be 427,000 MW. Upon commissioning of the project, Ejike is looking forward to enjoying the benefits that come from using clean, stable and less costly power at the market. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole
