Here are some of the top factors influencing a move to provide sustainable products and data: 🛒 Customer demand: Customers want to know the true impact of the product they purchase on their environment 📑 Legislations and regulations: Regulations such as the EU Green New Deal set higher standards, compelling manufacturers to adopt sustainable practices not just for compliance but as a strategic necessity. The intersection of consumer preferences and stringent regulations underscores that sustainability is no longer a choice but a pivotal aspect shaping the present and future of manufacturing practices worldwide. Sustainability Community Discussion Group: June Highlights We had a fantastic roundtable discussion on June 28th with various industry leaders. Key Takeaways: • Stakeholder Engagement for Sustainability: Ownership of different areas is challenging, especially for Scope 2 and Scope 3. Managing information collection, storage, and reporting often falls on existing headcount. Understanding regulations and identifying training needs is crucial. We emphasized the need for better standards, especially for product handprints, and discussed the assessment of products for reduced greenhouse gas footprint, resource consumption, water stewardship, and safety. • Plastic Packaging Regulations: Reviewed significant regulations across various states and governing bodies. Discussed aligning packaging R&D with regulatory needs, managing regional and global changes, and ensuring diverse business units stay aligned. Preparing for new rules, understanding nuanced differences, and coping with technology lagging behind regulatory demands were also key points. Thank you to our participants for sharing their expertise and experiences. Stay tuned for more insights and updates from our exclusive member roundtables. Handpicked by Position Green's team of sustainability experts in Brussels, Regitze Theill Jensen and Julia Staunig, here's the latest scoop from the heart of EU.🇪🇺 ▪️ Time to say goodbye to single-use plastics and packaging? Last week, negotiators struck a deal on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). From 2030, all packaging on the EU market must be recyclable, and by the beginning of 2035, recycled "at scale". The first provisions are expected to apply from 2026, banning toxic chemicals in food packaging. While it appears to be the beginning of the end for plastics packaging, the paper packaging industry escaped these stipulations. ▪️ The European Parliament and Council have just reached a provisional deal prohibiting products made with forced labour on the EU market. With more than 27 million victims around the globe, the law requires companies in high-risk sectors to prove their supply chains are free of forced labour, heightening the need for enhanced control. European authorities will have the power to withhold and ultimately dispose of products proved to contain parts produced with forced labour. ▪️ The first-ever European Climate Risk Assessment was published by the European Environment Agency (EEA), warning of potential catastrophic damaging in Europe. In light of this, the European Commission is advocating for an acceleration in the implementation of adaptation measures across the EU. Highlighting water shortages as a multifaceted threat, with risks related to food, drinking water, infrastructure and transportation, the Commission emphasises potential conflicts over transboundary resources. Excellent to see how we are progressing as an organization to build a more sustainable future in Packaging. Our commitment goes way beyond the products that we provide and we are excited to continue to innovate ourselves going into 2025 to provide continious improvement for the environment, our people, our customers and planet earth. EcoVadis rates our efforts across four key areas: environment, labor & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. While there is always room for improvement, this recognition underscores the hashtag #commitment of Greiner Packaging, Greiner Bio-One, and NEVEON to leading the shift towards a hashtag #circulareconomy and ensuring sustainability drives every part of our business https://lnkd.in/eD-itxgf
