Nominate outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of emergency management over the course of their career or lifetime. Nominate an emerging leader who has demonstrated exceptional potential and achievements at an early stage of their emergency management career. Or nominate someone who deserves to be acknowledged for their outstanding contribution to emergency management. Nominators should review the criteria for each award and write a narrative describing how their nominee demonstrates those qualities. While we spend a lot of our time getting clients' news in the headlines, we're also working quietly in the background for many others, managing their stakeholder engagement programmes. One particular area of stakeholder expertise for Liz Lean PR is in planning comms, where we have a solid track record in working alongside planners to build influence and positive sentiment for schemes ahead of planning submission - thereby creating as smooth a path forward as possible through the complex planning process. Let's face it - if your local community and influential local stakeholders aren't convinced of your scheme's benefits, convincing the planning committee to rubber stamp it is always going to be an uphill struggle - leading to more delays, more money, and more stress in resubmitting or appealing. Why take the risk?

👉 The Department was proud to host our first ‘Values in Action’ awards ceremony this week. As we serve the citizen, instilling civil service and departmental values has never been more important, considering the changing context introduced by blended working and external demands for increased responsiveness.    📢 The purpose of the ‘Values in Action’ competition was to seek examples and stories of how our staff are embedding and living our values of Public Service Ethos, Ambition, Collaboration, and Quality & Delivery. We wanted to hear from and recognise employees and teams who consistently exemplify these values in their work. ✔ We were delighted to receive 31 outstanding entries from across all areas of the Department demonstrating that not only are our values understood, but also how they have been embedded into our ways of working. Twelve entries made the final short list with five winners announced at the ceremony, hosted by our Secretary General Ken Spratt. All entries received have truly inspired us and have demonstrated the impact and meaning behind our shared purpose, values, and behaviours. 💻 The Department also launched a new employee experience portal called ‘EXchange’ at the event. The portal is a one-stop shop that sets out the ‘give and take’ of being part of the Department of Transport, including health and well-being, equality, diversity and inclusion and an employee journey map aligned with our values and associated behaviours. 🏆 Congratulations to all the teams and individuals who participated this year. Late last month, our staff values awards were handed out to a worthy bunch of recipients. Each quarter, employees who embody our values – Integrity, Collaboration, Excellence and Responsibility – in their everyday working lives are nominated by their peers for a Staff Reward. One of those worthy recipients was ICT Administrator Danny Yeomans, who received our Responsibility Award. Known for his exceptional problem-solving skills, Danny was nominated for a staff reward for ‘the level of responsibility and ownership to everything in his sphere at TAFE’ and ‘his willingness to step up in challenging situations and ability to navigate them with a positive demeanour'. So, what does a typical day for Danny at TAFE Gippsland look like? “A typical day at work starts with a cup of coffee!” Danny said. “After that, it can vary widely. Some days, I jump right into troubleshooting an overnight system failure or addressing urgent IT issues that have arisen overnight. Other times, I spend the day assisting colleagues with their needs and issues or collaborating with my team on projects. No two days are ever the same, which keeps things interesting and dynamic!” Danny’s ability to shine when disaster strikes and use his own expertise to diagnose and resolve the issue with minimal impact to business makes him a true asset to TAFE Gippsland. So, what’s been Danny’s proudest moment or greatest win at work? “I've experienced many successes in my job, but I can’t claim them as mine alone,” he said. “I’m lucky to work with an amazing team of colleagues who bring so much knowledge and insight to the IT department. Our collective efforts are what make these wins possible.” And best piece of advice? “Yes, the classic ‘just turn if off and on again’ trick really does fix things more often than you’d think!” #staffrewards #organisationalvalues #ICT #whenindoubtreboot #workattafe

A fantastic session on Wednesday with the APD BUI North team in Sheffield. It was great to have the opportunity to deliver a presentation on Unconcious Bias. The aim of the session wasn’t to get everyone to erradicate their unconcious bias by any means, simply because I don’t think that’s possible, but instead to improve awareness and take positive action on their own unconcious biases. Staggeringly our unconcious brain can process approximately 11 million pieces of information per second, however our concious brain can only process around 40 pieces of information per second; because of this the brain has a tendency to group things together and categorise things. This is just one of the reasons how unconcious bias can form. I am sure we can all do better to improve our unconcious biases.
