I am persuaded that African young people are uniquely placed to spearhead #FoodSystems transformation. But we must build and create a shared understanding of what will be required of us. At the center of this renewed effort should be embracing #SystemsApproach especially in policy formulation and implementation. Let the voice of young people count during the design and implementation of public policy. However, this also means, as young people we must seek to understand the process and avenue through which we can contribute and share our thoughts and insights. #CAADP Post Malabo process is one that we must take advantage of. This continental process has been started to develop new framework to guide Africa development beyond 2025. The development of the post Malabo mechanisms within the #ClimateChange scenario has shifted focus from the previous narrow agricultural production improvement to focus on agri-food systems . Here I believe young people have a critical role. We must get involved. It is time to act . Stories of agrifood systems change: Insights from Côte d’Ivoire, Cambodia, the Pacific, Guatemala and Albania https://lnkd.in/dj8hXWzG The need to shift towards new ways of thinking and working to address the current global challenges is implied in the growing conversation around agrifood systems, systems approaches and transformation. While increasingly used, these terms are far from being universally understood. A series of country change stories has been documented in an attempt to ground the global agrifood systems discourse in specific realities, demystify some of the terms involved and make sense of what they mean at country level. The five stories in this publication illustrate the varied ways in which FAO accompanied governments, civil society organizations and other development partners on a journey of agrifood systems transformation in Côte d’Ivoire, Cambodia, the Pacific, Guatemala and Albania.

We were pleased to present our Reboot project at the Kecskemét Agroecology Days. The Rebooting the Food System programme aims to transform the current unsustainable global food system by actively involving young people. It is implemented across nine EU member states with the support of 14 organisations. In Hungary, Agroökológia Magyarország provides an excellent foundation and cooperation platform for the programme. It brings together and networks representatives from Hungarian producer and consumer communities, farmers, educators, academics, NGOs, and alternative marketing channels, all working to promote agroecological values. #DEAR #Reboot #Rebootingthefoodsystem #Youthforfood

Today, an article I authored has been featured in the People's Daily in Kenya, inspired by a course on the role of Parliament in achieving #SDGs by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. I believe a system approach in food systems transformation holds the key to #EndPoverty and ensure #ZeroHunger, coupled with effective #ClimateAction. Reflecting on Alex Rees 's insights on food systems leadership, I emphasize the importance of empowering Parliaments and Members of Parliament to embrace a #SystemsApproach in policy formulation. In my article, I delve into the potential of clustering strategies to enhance water infrastructure, subsequently boosting food productivity through the adoption of irrigation technologies. Efficient allocation of scarce resources into multi-benefit initiatives is crucial, with active citizen engagement being paramount. Collaboration is essential, as highlighted by Alex Rees, to nurture leaders in the food systems domain. I commend the African Food Fellowship and UN Food Systems Coordination Hub for their efforts in training food systems leaders, a crucial step towards achieving sustainable development goals. I urge my fellow young individuals to proactively build capacity in the food systems space. Together, with innovative food systems leadership, we can drive positive change and progress towards a sustainable future. #FoodSystems #LeadershipDevelopment #SustainableDevelopmentGoals Stefanos Fotiou Dr. Nicole De Paula Brenda Mareri Ibrahim Mayaki Michael Maluki

The upcoming African Food Systems Forum in September 2024 will focus on the transformative work happening across Africa’s food systems. One of the impactful projects highlighted during the event will be the Developing Inclusive Grain Value Chains in #Nigeria (DIGVCN). This project, a collaboration between IDH, Nestlé, and TechnoServe, has significantly improved the livelihoods of over 22,000 smallholder farmers by providing essential training, facilitating access to finance, and enhancing market opportunities. With achievements like €7.7 million in input credit, the creation of over 262,000 jobs, and the widespread adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, the project has made strides in strengthening the grain value chain and fostering economic growth. The Forum will offer an opportunity to delve into these successes, exploring how similar approaches can be scaled and adapted across different regions to build a more resilient and inclusive food system throughout Africa.
