This week I've been highlighting challenges that education & nonprofit leaders face. The first challenge was increased stress + decreased well-being and the second challenge was being promoted due to technical skills and then being expected to miraculously translate that success into a leadership role. The third challenge education & nonprofit leaders face is that leadership development is a) often nonexistent or b) its theoretical & is missing chances to apply those skills in context / receive feedback. ✏ Most districts, CMOs, and nonprofits don’t have an organization-wide definition of leadership 🖍 Most districts, CMOs, and nonprofits don’t have an organization-wide, systemic approach to leadership development 🖋 Those that do end up providing development on leadership skills but don’t include ways to apply those skills in context and receive feedback 🖌 This leaves leaders relying on their technical skills only or applying recently learned leadership skills in novice ways without opportunities to receive feedback 🖊 This negatively impacts the experience of those people the leader supervises while causing the leader to question their competence / fit for the role
