In troubling times, what role is there for science to play? This weekend, we mark the World Science Day for Peace and Development, on 10 November. It's a time to reflect on the positive - and often understated - influence research can have on society. To mark the occasion last year, we compiled a list of projects advancing science's positive legacy: from improving conflict resolution to delivering on the #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. Give these projects and read - and let us reflect on how research, its results and findings, can contribute to creating the conditions for peace and in turn, allow for societies to flourish. #WorldScienceDay #PeaceDay

LECTURE SERIES 🌍 🧑💼Ann-Christine Link (Environment and Migration: Interactions and Choices (EMIC) Division, Institute for Environment and Human Security) 📢 "The Nexus of Climate, Human (Im)Mobility and Health“ 📍online @Zoom ⏰Wednesday, 19/06, 6:15 - 7:15pm 💬Language: English 👤 Ann-Christine Link is part of the EMIC team, specializing in the nexus of climate change, human (im)mobility, and health and how it can be effectively integrated into climate policies such as NAPs (National Adaptation Plans) and NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions). In a joint project with FAO, Ann-Christine and colleagues developed a global guide and toolkit on integrating human mobility from a rural livelihoods perspective into NAPs and NDCs. The global guide and toolkit delivers guidance on how to strengthen cooperation, coordination, and coherence amongst relevant stakeholders and provides a set of ten tools to help policy and decision-makers achieve the previously communicated goal. Since then, she has been supporting governments to integrate human (im)mobility in their NAPs and NDCs. Additionally, she co-coordinated the Climate Academy 2023 on climate-related planned relocation, contributing to two outcomes: a commentary on the tensions of climate-related planned relocation and a policy brief on integrating planned relocation into NAPs and NDCs. Simultaneously, Ann-Christine is pursuing a Ph.D. at Philipps-University Marburg, Germany, in Economic Geography and Location Research since 2021. Her research encompasses diverse areas, including the correlation between climatic and environmental conditions and European migration, the impact of weather on pneumonia in Germany, the effects of climatic shocks on the well-being of households in East Africa, and the well-being of Ukrainian refugees in Germany post the Russian Invasion. Her passion lies in empowering migrants, displaced, relocated, and immobile individuals by giving them a voice and countering prevalent negative notions and prejudices. 🔥 We are looking forward to welcoming you! Our lectures are open to everybody, so feel free to invite friends as well 🙂 🔥 #lectureseries #lecture #bimun #bimunsinub#modelunitednations #mun #multilateralism#international #internationalaffairs#internationalrelations #bonn #developmentstudies #migration #globalmovement

🎯 "Dialogue spaces in universities are fundamental for addressing climate challenges," highlights Prof. Claudio Melacarne from the University of Siena, presenting ELCRA research findings from 5 European countries. "Our research shows how students actively seek institutional venues to discuss climate change and possible actions openly. There's a strong awareness about the importance of effective communication on these issues" 🌍 A significant finding is young people's extraordinary openness to dialogue, calling for more opportunities for constructive discussion in universities 💡 Project Partners: 🇮🇹 University of Siena 🇱🇹 Klaipeda University 🇵🇹 ESN Portugal 🇮🇹 ESN Italy 🇪🇸 Complutense University of Madrid 🇵🇱 Jagiellonian University 🇵🇹 University of Coimbra 🇵🇹 ESN Portugal 🇮🇹 ESN Italy 🇮🇹 OpenCom Link to the project website www.elcraproject.eu #Elcra #EnvironmentalLiteracy #ClimateActivism #PreventRadicalization #YouthEngagement #SustainabilitySkills #CommunityOfPractice #AdvocacyCampaigns #ClimateCrisisAttitudes #EnvironmentalEducation #YouthParticipation #EnvironmentalAwareness #HigherEducation #ELCRAProject #ChangeAgents #EnvironmentalAdvocacy #highereducation #indire #smpf #sepie #erasmusportugal #FRSE

April is #CitizenScience month! 🌐 Citizen science highlights the important role citizens play in science and research by gathering first-hand information on a variety of topics including health, climate, energy and more! Their input and active participation in the process helps scientists develop new knowledge and innovations that impact society and policymaking. However, small-scale national citizen science projects often face practical, technical, or conceptual challenges and lack the support, the transnational coordination skills, and the resources, to upscale their efforts to a transnational level. 💡 That is why ScienceUs is on a mission to create an EU-wide network of interconnected citizen science projects where citizens actively contribute to addressing climate change challenges through science. 🌱 Are you a member of a citizen science initiative that focuses on the adaption of climate change? Join the ScienceUs project! Find out more on our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d4GPtTP7

🌍🔬 Celebrating World Science Day for Peace and Development 🔬🌍 This weekend, we recognise the vital role that science plays in promoting peace, advancing sustainable development, and improving lives worldwide. World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights how research and innovation can bridge divides, tackle global challenges, and contribute to a fairer, more resilient world. To truly harness science’s potential, it must be accessible to all—starting from a young age. Inspiring curiosity and critical thinking in younger generations is essential for cultivating future scientists, innovators, and informed citizens. Effective outreach and education initiatives ensure that the wonders of science reach everyone, empowering individuals and communities to engage with and benefit from scientific progress. Let’s work toward a future where science serves as a force for peace, cooperation, and inclusive growth, and where everyone has the opportunity to participate in and contribute to scientific advancement. #WorldScienceDay #ScienceForAll #PeaceAndDevelopment #OutreachMatters #InspireYoungMinds #InclusiveInnovation
