If we are truly to invest in women in Australia, then we must focus and urgently coordinate our efforts to end domestic, family and sexual violence, writes Micaela Cronin, the national Family and Domestic Violence Commissioner. #iwd2024 #domesticviolence #sexualviolence #genderequality

Glad to attend the Adelaide White Ribbon Breakfast - Wake Up To Change event hosted by White Ribbon Australia as the world's largest social movement to end men's violence against women. Proud to be part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions as a White Ribbon Accredited workplace, that is committed to preventing and responding to violence against women and contributing to gender equality. While gendered violence is a complex subject matter, that has various contributing factors such as structural inequalities, social conditioning/attitudes, gender-based roles etc, it is important to take note of the fact that over 60% of women experiencing violence from a current partner are working. Workplaces can play a key role in driving the desired change. In fact, all of us have a role to play in ending gender inequality and gendered violence! #whiteribbon #endingviolenceagainstwomen #PIRSA #wakeuptochange

As July comes to a close, we welcome August, a month to recognize and celebrate the remarkable women who drive South Africa forward. Women's Month is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to raise awareness about the significant challenges women face in our society. Despite progress, many women in South Africa continue to experience workplace harassment and unequal pay. Studies show that approximately 30% of women face harassment in the workplace, and around 40% are paid less than their male counterparts for the same work. These statistics underscore the need for ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in all sectors. We have a lot of work to do to become an equitable society. Let's start Women's Month by committing to staying informed and supporting initiatives that promote equality and empowerment for all women. #womensmonth #womensrights #payequality #endharassment #womenatwork

Did you know roughly half of global migrants are women? Gender shapes every stage of the migration experience. Inequalities at work and at home may be reinforced, and women and girls in particular face heightened risks of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and exploitation. Despite this, the number of migrant women and girls is on the rise. Their courage and strength should not be taken for granted. Time's running out! With only 15.4% of gender equality indicators on track, we must act now to empower women and girls for a sustainable future. #InvestInWomen #IWD2024

🗣 Hear directly from women as they share their insights on the impact of Macroeconomic policies and the real-life experiences of women in Sierra Leone. @Christian Aid Sierra Leone, we firmly believe that women are at the heart of Sierra Leone's economic growth. Their active involvement in macroeconomic policies is not just beneficial but crucial for sustainable development. Our recommendations: 1️⃣ Policymakers worldwide must uphold their states’ legally binding obligations. 2️⃣ Mobilize all available resources to achieve Gender equality and Human Rights. 3️⃣ Strengthening democratic and decolonized institutions to foster a more equitable global economic landscape. #christianaidsierraleone #StandingTogether #genderequality #EconomicJustice

In commemoration of the International Day of Care and Support, I’m absolutely thrilled to have been part of a historic conversation on transforming care systems in Nepal! This is an important step toward achieving gender equality and realizing the goals of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. This roundtable brought together remarkable leaders, policymakers, and gender advocates, to center Care as a cornerstone of gender equality in Nepal’s 16th Periodic Plan. Highlights included: ✅ Updates on Nepal’s strides in Care policy, from forming the Care Working Group and crafting a Care Roadmap to joining the Global Alliance for Care. ✅ Insights from local women representatives who are championing Care policy in practice at the grassroots level. ✅ Insights from the UN Women Regional Director, who shared global best practices for strengthening Care work as an enabler of economic empowerment. This dialogue reinforced the urgency of revaluing Care work and building equitable, quality care systems to unlock opportunities for women everywhere. #ShareCare #TransformCare #CareEconomy #GenderEquality

How can storytelling help us understand changes in social norms? In Nepal, Gender at Work partnered with The Story Kitchen (TSK) to explore this question through a feminist, participatory research project as part of the Hamro Sahakarya initiative by UN Women Nepal. We worked with community-based peer researchers to collect 1,000 stories from women, girls, and other community members across five districts, to understand how harmful social norms—such as caste discrimination, child marriage, and menstruation restrictions—persist, but also where slow yet visible shifts towards gender equality are taking root. Learn more about the initiative, the methodology, the lessons learned throughout the process, and some of the stories of change in video and comic format, such as Changing with the Times (see a preview below!) here 👉🏽 https://bit.ly/3zcZsS2
