Discover them: ✅ Establish regional and global youth-led research networks focused on the control of small arms. ✅ Remove barriers to the effective participation of youth from the Global South to international institutions. ✅ Establish dedicated and sustained funding for youth engagement and empowerment: increase in paid entry-level positions for youth, as well as support for youth-focused initiatives on the ground.

The Violence Reduction Initiative (VRI) – a research center designed to address violent crime in Chattanooga – was recently created by UTC’s Dr. Rick Dierenfeldt and the UTC Criminal Justice Department. The VRI represents a bold commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world solutions to help improve law-enforcement strategies and reduce crime in our communities. The center will help make an impact on our community but also help the UTC Criminal Justice Department be more competitive for external funding, encourage a higher level of community engagement, support student-faculty research collaboration, and put the department in a position to develop research and policy that addresses highly important issues. Meet our 2023-24 Faculty Fellow, Dr. Sarah Ullman. Dr. Ullman's project, "African American and Latinx Women’s Recovery from Interpersonal and Community Violence in Chicago" examines data on Chicago-area African American and Latinx rape survivors (N=836) to enhance policy-relevant knowledge of community-level factors and how services and intervention can be adapted to meet their needs. Data will be used to: a) educate formal support providers about African American and Latinx survivors’ needs and b) inform the development of an informal support intervention to enhance recovery and access to care. 🌎 Annual Report 2023: SOMOS Comunidad 🌎 In 2023, PADF made significant strides in empowering Colombia’s most vulnerable communities through community-driven initiatives. By supporting 126 civil society organizations (CSOs), we boosted their organizational capabilities by 94% and helped develop 52 protection models, five of which were adopted as national policies. Our work also encouraged civic engagement through Municipal Youth Councils and Victims' Committees, ensuring that local voices shape the future. We also focused on enhancing trust in Colombia’s National Police, raising public confidence from 56.8% to 62.7% over the past five years through targeted training and community-police partnerships. Additionally, we strengthened 34 municipalities by nearly tripling institutional effectiveness and fostering dialogue on citizen security, promoting a safer and more resilient future. ☮ Stop the war on children! Because children are most affected by conflict, and millions of children are currently suffering unspeakable suffering. Let’s not give up, we can build a better world, we can build peace. During Save the Children International launch event of the report in today’s challenging contexts, UNICEF will talk about: 1️⃣ What strategies can be strengthened or adapted to protect better children facing the devastating impacts of armed conflict? 2️⃣ With global peacekeeping operations facing significant resource constraints, how can we ensure that child protection remains a core priority? Infos about the event:
Tomorrow is World's Children Day. Unfortunately, for many children around the world and especially those living in conflict situations, their most fundamental rights are far too often being violated. If you are in Geneva, you are welcome to join us tomorrow for the launch of Save the Children's annual report "Stop the War on Children". With a panel of distinguished speakers, we will be exploring how we can better protect children in conflict and uphold their rights. 100 years after the Geneva Declaration was endorsed by the League of Nations, we will collectively reaffirm our commitment to children's rights and their universality. We must stop the war on children!
