A key takeaway from day one of the Growth Summit is that you can't think of 'growth policy' or 'industrial policy' or 'investment climate reform' in the abstract, and expect that market level reforms on their own will lead to growth. Large, formal firms are key to economic growth, and many low income countries have too few of them. So policy needs to get concrete about how to support the growth of existing large firms, and how to support the creation and market entry of more large firms. All while ensuring that the few large firms do not capture policy and protect their existing positions, so that growth can be sustained through market entry and exit.

We appreciated your participation in our practical workshop in - "From Theory to Practice: Data-Driven Impact Management ''!🙌 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 💫On Tuesday, April 16th, the annual “Impact summit” took place, co-hosted by the Tel Aviv-Yaffo Academic College and The-Marker, in collaboration with The Israeli Forum for Impact Economy.  This year's conference focused on building back better the Israeli  impact economy by applying a variety of impact principles and tools for the planning and rehabilitation of communities affected by the war, aiming to maximize the cross sectorial efforts and  resources directed towards Building Back Better. 💫Following the conference, The IFIE hosted a workshop where we launched an open-source system for managing and measuring impact, making frameworks and tools globally accessible through practical guides. Together with partners from the Bridges Israel Fund, The SFI Group, and the Kayama - Centre for Social Innovation and Impact Entrepreneurship‏ Center, we delved into why it is crucial to manage based on impact data and the steps needed to implement this professionally. In the wake of International Women’s Day, I spent a thoroughly enjoyable, thought-provoking day yesterday at the BioIndustry Association (BIA) Women in Biotech conference.    The energy and enthusiasm from Michelle Griffith Robinson OLY set the tone for the day. Find your tribe so you can thrive. “No” means next opportunity (one to use at work and home; particularly when my toddler has said “no” for the 100th time before it’s even 8am!).   Lucy Edwardes Jones chaired a brilliant investment session, with an all-female panel, notwithstanding the terrifying fact that there are more VC funds run by someone called David than by women.   A number of helpful practical tips shared: - Your pitch deck should be clear about the value proposition for investors; - Listen to the questions you are being asked by investors and learn from them (including using them to adjust and focus your next pitch); - Don’t be afraid to ask your network for introductions – completely agree with Emily Pilkington that it is genuinely exciting to be asked a question about something other than the day job!   For the second session on redefining sector leadership, there were three words I took away – Bravery. Vulnerability. Transparency.   With thanks to Rippon Ubhi for the reminder to strive for excellence and not to let perfectionism hold you back.   #WomeninBiotech

I appreciate your honesty in your reflection, Shruti Shankar Gaur, Ph.D. I can imagine the enthusiasm generated in attending an event such as those in Davos. It’s contagious positive energy. I can also identify with what you’re saying, “we are no change makers.” While I’ve never attended one of these events there was a time I aspired to participate. No longer. What I’ve learned in the past year participating in a researching/writing activity on sustainability parallels what you say here. What I concluded from that positive experience is if I want to be impactful I need to engage in hands-on activities in my community. By doing so I’ll have the appropriate context of local issues and learn from local experts they’re approaches in addressing those problems. Then I’ll see first hand what works, what doesn’t. I start becoming a “local” SME. Sharing those community experiences would be useful, valuable at forums ranging from regional to national to international, like in Davos. Doing and sharing our “doing”experiences is how we learn. We need both. Having never attended one of those international events, I don’t know if experienced doer participation happens or not. Your post-Davos sentiments, “we are no change makers” suggests not.

Can you scale social good and profit together? The whole narrative of the impact movement is that we can have our cake and eat it too. Essentially, that we can do it all—make money and do good at scale. This means we don’t really have to give anything up. Therefore, we are launching "Business for Humanity" - a series of interactive monthly webcasts dedicated to promoting viable enhancements and alternatives to our economic system.
