#BikesForUkraine: 1827 Bicycles Delivered to Volunteers, Medics, Social Workers, and Children This number of bicycles has been delivered over the two years of the #BikesForUkraine campaign – an international humanitarian initiative that emerged in response to a request from volunteers. Bicycles are almost the only mode of transport in communities that were affected by war, allowing people to get around where there are no roads or fuel. Thanks to #BikesForUkraine, 73 war-affected communities in the Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and other regions of Ukraine have become more mobile. They are able to receive the assistance they need more quickly, including humanitarian aid. We are happy to be among the participating organizations together with U-Cycle (Kyiv Cyclists' Association), Еко Місто, Sumy Extreme Style, NGO FORZA, NGO Velovector, VeloFormat, CargoCult e-cargo bike delivery , lifecycle.kyiv.

Urgent call to action: Ukraine needs bikes! 🚴 The war in Ukraine has disrupted transportation, impacting aid delivery. As a result, moving by bike has quickly become an indispensable means of transport. Organised by ECF member U-cycle and five other NGOs, the international campaign #BikesForUkraine provides bikes for citizens, volunteers, and medical staff to ensure the efficient delivery of humanitarian aid, food, and medication to those in need. When Cyclone Seroja struck #TimorLeste in 2021, several Timorese #diaspora organizations in Australia quickly united to mobilize resources for emergency relief. As small, community-based organizations without direct ties to the formal #humanitarian system, they needed innovative ways to channel their support. Thanks to their connections with ACCCTO, a local partner, essential items like food and medicine were distributed to affected communities. Despite having no prior experience in humanitarian aid, ACCCTO coordinated effectively with local authorities, village leaders, and charity groups. Diaspora humanitarianism is characterized by rapid mobilization, deep-rooted social networks, and a commitment to accountability through informal channels. At DEMAC, we strive to deepen the understanding of diasporas as vital humanitarian actors and strengthen coordination between diaspora organizations, local networks, and the global humanitarian system. A year ago today, after an absolute high from the Skoll Foundation #SWF in Oxford, my world fell apart… On April 15 2023, I woke up to the news that the Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) took over #Khartoum's airport and are launching active attacks at the Sudanese Armed Forces #SAF in Khartoum and Meroe. The militia group, since, seized control in Darfur, Kordofan, and Aljazeera states. It took a few days for the war that broke out in a capital city the size of London to become breaking news, as the international media treats my country and my region as a "war-prone region"; where such a conflict is not a shock. Naturally, it took a few weeks for the mention of Sudan to disappear from large media outlets and for the reporting to turn into statistics, as detached from humanity as it could get! The world's forgotten war is now one of the largest humanitarian crises in recent history with more than half the Sudanese people facing a direct risk of famine and more than fourth internally and externally displaced. 14,000 people recorded killed and thousands are missing or detained. I was in Oxford this year during the #Skoll World Forum and Marmalade , and I saw people coming together from all parts of the world, working on extremely complex challenges, and having inspiring solutions. I was inspired by so many group and individual conversations, and more than ever, I believe conversations and action around systems change, social entrepreneurship, and impact finance need to be more equitable, so I am writing to draw attention to the crisis in Sudan and push the chain of action. A year later, here is what you need to know about Sudan as a member of the international "impact" and impact finance ecosystem: 🌍 This is the largest conflict in the history of Sudan in terms of people affected and impact on the country's institutions. 🏦 This is the least funded humanitarian crisis with only 6% of required funding allocated. 🌿 If we don't act fast, 24 million people face the threat of famine. ⛑ There are 1.7 million refugees in neighbouring countries that also need assistance and urgent action. 🍲 The humanitarian efforts in the country have largely been carried out by grassroots organisations (neighbourhood committees) in the form of community kitchens and voluntarily-run clinics - those frontline responders don't all speak large donor language, so funders need to reach them! 🏥 Most international organisations left Sudan or reduced operations as a direct result of conflict or lack of funding. Today, our thoughts are with the resilient people of #Ukraine, who have endured unimaginable hardships after the full-scale invasion two years ago. With 40% of the population needing humanitarian support, they must not be forgotten. Every day, Airlink works to move aid supplies and humanitarian personnel for our partners whose programs continue on the ground. We've helped 66 nonprofits and NGOs respond in Ukraine and neighboring countries, reaching over 5 million people with aid and assistance. Having recently surveyed these partners, healthcare remains the top programmatic focus, with funding scarcity and supply chain costs presenting significant challenges. This underscores our role of providing free airlift and logistical solutions for timely aid movement without barriers to response. While we've achieved a lot together over the past two years, much more remains to be done. Thank you to our airline partners, donors, and supporters for your unwavering commitment. We couldn't have made this impact without you. ⬇️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e_8V2kcE #SupportUkraine #HumanitarianAid #NGOs #Logistics #AviationCARES

🕊️✨Two years of continuous shelling of civilian infrastructure objects and residential areas, private residences, and critical facilities have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. This has led to an increase in casualties and injuries. As the population's needs grow, there is a decrease in the level of international support. Unfortunately, the reduction in aid will have the greatest impact on the most vulnerable population groups. 🚨 🤝In response to these challenges, HIAS Ukraine continues to actively support those affected, focusing on the needs of women, girls, and other marginalized groups in frontline communities in eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. 🌍HIAS Ukraine prioritizes the localization of its activities by supporting local partner organizations that have deep connections with communities and a nuanced understanding of the local context. These organizations play a crucial role in providing effective, timely, and community-focused humanitarian assistance. Learn more about the important work of local organizations by following our "Voices of Hope" campaign. ✨📣 #ПсихосоціальнаПідтримка #StandWithUkraine #MHPSS #MentalHealth #HIAS #HIASUkraine #mentalhealth #HI #hiasukraine #CommunitySupport #hias #PsychosocialSupport #подорожзцілення #MHUHR #GenderBasedViolence #ГуманітарнаДопомога

🌍 World Humanitarian Day 2024: Honoring the Brave and the Compassionate🌍 I'm really proud to be a part of a Humanitarian Organization World Vision Lanka Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we pause to recognize and celebrate the incredible dedication of humanitarian workers around the globe who risk their lives to help those in need. World Humanitarian Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 to honor the memory of the 22 humanitarian workers who lost their lives in the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad on August 19, 2003. Since then, it has grown into a day to recognize the tireless efforts of all those who provide life-saving assistance to millions of people, often in the most challenging and dangerous circumstances. In 2024, the need for humanitarian action is more critical than ever. With conflicts, climate change, and natural disasters displacing millions, humanitarian workers are on the front lines, providing food, shelter, medical care, and hope to those who have lost everything. The global pandemic has only heightened the challenges they face, making their work more vital and more dangerous. Let’s take a moment today to honor these heroes who put others before themselves, often in perilous conditions. Their bravery and compassion remind us of the power of human solidarity and the importance of supporting humanitarian efforts worldwide. We all have a role to play. Whether through advocacy, donations, or simply spreading awareness, let's ensure that humanitarian workers receive the recognition and support they deserve. Together, we can make a difference. #WorldHumanitarianDay #HumanityFirst #GlobalSolidarity #HumanitarianAid #worldvision #un

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a military invasion of Ukraine. The active conflict continues two years on, with 3.67 million Ukrainians displaced internally and 5.97 million Ukrainians displaced across Europe. Significant multi-sector needs are expected to continue for families on the frontline and internally displaced persons (IDPs) throughout 2024. In August 2022, CORE conducted an assessment of IDP shelter preferences in Lvivska Oblast to inform the design of its rental assistance program in Ukraine, which found that half of surveyed IDPs wished to secure private housing, but faced significant financial barriers to doing so. This learning brief focuses on lessons drawn from CORE’s Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF)-supported rental assistance program to 300 households, which was implemented from December 2022 to August 2023 in Lviv and Lvivska oblast, and includes recommendations for scaling in this context in 2024. In humanitarian crises around the world, "local communities are always the first responders." Since the 2021 Russian invasion of Ukraine, some 1,700 new grassroots organizations sprung into action, joining an existing 4,000+ groups. The country has received billions of dollars in humanitarian aid. So why have community-led organizations received a "pittance" of that money? Proximate (an MSC fiscally sponsored project) on why the organizations doing the majority of frontline work receive less than 20% of donor dollars — and the related burnout — at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gd_fPpd4

Last week, we were honored to receive an award from UNITED24, an initiative spearheaded by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aimed at providing ongoing support for Ukraine. This award acknowledges our unparalleled support of #Ukraine during the tumultuous times of war and is crafted from a unique material sourced from formerly occupied territories in southern Ukraine. Ukraine has consistently ranked among our top markets. Before the onset of the war, we were operational in 39 cities. Additionally, in 2021, we established our Tech Hub in #Kyiv, positioning Ukraine’s capital as a key centre for innovation within #Glovo. In response to the conflict, we temporarily suspended operations in Ukraine. However, we quickly resumed operations after self-organized groups of couriers continued to deliver essential goods and medications to those in need. Since reopening our platform in Ukraine in March 2022, our primary objective has been to provide humanitarian aid and essential logistics to those affected by the conflict. We've witnessed an ongoing demand for vital services from residents and NGOs unable to access food, medicine, and urgent necessities, and we remain committed to meeting these needs. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦 #PoweredByUnited24 #United24
