This just in: USAID CATALYZE partner Lumbini Tea Valley Ceylon received the world’s first Reginagri group certification in the tea industry, which will facilitate access to new, higher-value markets for 1500+ smallholder tea suppliers and break new ground for Sri Lanka’s #tea cultivation sector. By emphasizing ethical standards and sustainability, the RegenAgri certification trains farmers to adopt and implement practices that contribute to improved soil health, increased biodiversity, and reduced emissions. This approach not only enables farmers to rejuvenate their soil, and boost crop yields, but access carbon credit markets and environmental subsidies for premium crop prices. In the Reboot project 🔄, we are working on agroecology, which includes safe food 🥘 supply and sustainable food production. 🍏 Part of this question is the palm oil 🌴 problem, on which the Reboot lead partner, CIR - Christliche Initiative Romero, @ci.romero - has produced a comprehensive report. The report "In the shadow of the oil palm" examines the issue of palm oil production in Central America and the responsibility of companies in Germany. 🇩🇪 But what is the problem with palm oil? Palm oil production has serious negative ecological and social impact as well. Oil palm production in huge monocultures destroys the environment and livelihoods . Rain forests are being cleared 🚜, land is being stolen , drinking water 💧 is being polluted. In spite of all that, the amount of palm oil produced has recently reached a record high. To satisfy the demand for this cheap resource, the industry is always looking for new production areas. Palm oil manufacturers have declared the region a growth zone 💰💰💰. Plantations are being set up, their acreage steadily increasing – with devastating consequences for local, often indigenous, communities. You can download the report from here 👉 https://lght.ly/143g0bi #DEAR #Reboot #Rebootingthefoodsystem #Youthforfood 📸 In the shadow of the oil palm, Palm oil report 2024 by CIR

🌾 Creating a better future for Tanzanian rice production 🌱 Did you know? Small farmers account for a staggering 90% of the rice produced in Tanzania annually. With ambitious government targets to double rice cultivation by 2030, there's a pressing need for sustainable solutions to ensure this growth doesn't harm our planet. 👨🏿🌾 That's where a new climate action project from Rikolto comes in! Focused on implementing the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) Standard, this initiative empowers farmers with knowledge and resources for eco-friendly rice cultivation practices. 💡And it’s not just stopping at education. The project is pioneering a climate-smart financing mechanism, collaborating with key stakeholders and financial institutions to make sustainable farming a viable and attractive investment. Want to learn more? 🎥 Watch the video below featuring Lisa De Vos, who previously worked at Rikolto, where she delves deeper into the project and its impact! 👉 Get all the project details: https://lnkd.in/d8TGWqqv This project received funding from the Flanders International Climate Action Programme, an initiative from the Flemish Government, coordinated by G-STIC and Departement Omgeving. #ClimateAction #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateSmartFarming #RiceRevolution Nina Pattyn Jelle Goossens John Ereng

At Soorty Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., we had the honour of hosting members from the Balochistan Government's Agricultural Extension Department and WWF Pakistan at our facility to celebrate the announcement of Balochistan's new Organic Cotton Policy. 🌱 This policy is a significant milestone for sustainable agriculture in Pakistan, paving the way for enhanced organic cotton cultivation by promoting non-GMO seeds, increasing access to bio-inputs, and encouraging eco-friendly farming practices. With better market linkages farmers will be positioned better to leverage their premium for scaling up organic production, and improve livelihoods while ensuring environmental sustainability. Projects like our Soorty Organic Cotton Initiative (SOCI) will thrive under this policy, reinforcing our shared mission to promote organic farming, increase soil health, and reduce environmental impact. The policy aligns perfectly with our ongoing efforts in Balochistan, enabling us to scale operations and support farmers with the tools and knowledge to succeed. We are deeply grateful to Mr. Habibullah Shah from the Government of Balochistan’s Agricultural Extension Department and Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Bakhsh from WWF - Pakistan for their leadership in spearheading this transformative policy. Their tireless efforts will have a lasting impact on the cotton farming ecosystem and the future of sustainable agriculture in Pakistan. 🌍 #OrganicCotton #SustainableAgriculture #BalochistanPolicy #WWFPakistan #SoortyEnterprises #TextileSustainability #SOCI #OrganicFarming #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #GreenEconomy WWF Organic Cotton Accelerator REEDS Pakistan United Nations United Nations Global Compact Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH GIZ Pakistan

#INAontheground🌏 Meet Rosaline Okou from Wogbayé, Djidjia municipality, South #Benin. She is a mother of four children, a widow, and a passionate cotton farmer: For the past two decades, Rosaline has been cultivating #organiccotton on her 5-hectare plot, showcasing the power of #sustainablefarming. Today, she leads a cooperative of 30 farmers – 20 men and 10 women. After harvest, the cooperative reserves a portion for personal consumption, thereby ensuring #foodsecurity. Moreover, selling during lean periods maximizes market prices, thus increasing the cooperative’s profits. Managing 10 hectares of land, Rosaline grows cotton, maize, soy, cashew nuts, cassava, and peppers. Her secret to a bountiful cotton yield? A fertile soil. For example, crop residues buried in the ground become soil fertilizers. Moreover, weed control during weeding periods strengthens plant roots, as Rosaline explains. 💡What is the background? With the goal to establish sustainable cotton and textile #supplychains, the Sub-Saharan Cotton Initiative, a funding program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, supports business-led consortia in realizing their sustainability projects. One of these impactful projects is ‘Growing Benin’s Organic Cotton Sector’. Collaborating with partners like Pesticide Action Network UK, Cotton made in Africa, Paul Reinhart AG and Organisation Béninoise pour la Promotion de l’Agriculture Biologique (OBEPAB), it promotes organic agriculture in Benin and supports #smallholderfarmers in producing #sustainablecotton. 🖥️ Find out more about the project and the initiative here: https://lnkd.in/e6am3Sar ✅ How do farmers like Rosaline benefit from the program? The project trains Rosaline and 9.000 Beninese smallholder farmers in sustainable cotton farming. Its impact extends beyond farming, building #farmercapacity, fostering #women’sindependence, enhancing community #resilience, and improving overall #health by eliminating harmful pesticides. Way to go to push sustainable agriculture! #OrganicFarming #SustainableAgriculture #WomenInAgriculture

🚨Stand Up for Our Farmers and Protect Our Future!🚨 Organics Aotearoa New Zealand (OANZ) is raising funds to launch a nationwide campaign to protect New Zealand farmers and consumers from the critical risks of GE deregulation🌿🇳🇿 🔗https://lnkd.in/gaSr83Ax Why does this matter? The global track record of GE is concerning. In 2018, GE cotton seeds were introduced in Africa with hopes of boosting yields and fighting pests. Six years later, they failed to deliver on these promises, leaving farmers without the results they were promised. 🔗https://lnkd.in/da9uzz22 Meanwhile, in Europe, experts at the European Food Safety Authority are raising concerns about GE maize. Bayer's GE crop (MON810) appears to be failing to control pests as intended, exposing the shortcomings of these "solutions." 🔗https://lnkd.in/gZpRK8sB Now, more than ever, it's time to stand up for our organic future and support our farmers with sustainable, proven methods💚 💬 Join the conversation, share your thoughts, and support OANZ’s mission to inform Kiwis about the risks of GE deregulation. 📸- Pure Peony Skincare #biogro #newzealand #nzbusiness #biotech #agriculture
