General Dwight Eisenhower was a busy guy. As the supreme commander of the allied forces in Europe, he commanded 70 million troops in 15 countries -- both free and occupied. He also oversaw 270,000 tanks and, by war’s end, 300,000 planes. So he needed a time management system that would enable him to effectively prioritize his day. Ike invented a four-quadrant chart, now known as the Eisenhower Matrix, to enable him to do just that. The diagram identifies tasks in terms of their urgency and importance. Urgent tasks need to be done usually within a day and important tasks help us achieve long-term objectives. As he famously put it: “What is urgent is seldom important and what is important is seldom urgent.” The Four Quadrants: Do: Both urgent and important; need to be done immediately. Decide: Less important but urgent; schedule for later. Delegate: Less Important and less urgent. Eliminate: Neither Important nor Urgent. Could using this matrix benefit your practice? I’ll include a link to a useful article in the first comment field. #financialadvisor #wealthmanagement #goingindependent

It’s time to modernize strategic military planning and decision-making. Onebrief heeds this call by helping our military staff “plan at the speed of war” and operate faster and more efficiently. We’re proud to co-lead Onebrief’s $50M Series C and welcome Grant and the entire team to the GC Famiglia. “At General Catalyst, our mission is to help modernize our nation's defense and industrial resilience. At the core of this resiliency is our military's ability to make rapid operational decisions in distributed and dynamic environments. We met Grant and Onebrief over two years ago and were struck by the clarity of their approach. My partners, Lt Gen. USAF (Ret) Scott Howell and Matt Byington have experienced the military planning process firsthand and quickly noticed the advantages that Onebrief provides at every echelon. We're excited to partner with Onebrief and help them support warfighters and military staffs to be more efficient and effective in their profession.” -GC’s Paul Kwan More from Paul, Lt. History was written 80 years ago today. Allied forces executed the largest military operation ever attempted, marking the start of the campaign to liberate northern Europe. The bravery of all those involved is almost impossible to comprehend and can never be understated. They were all heroes whose actions changed the course of WW2. We must never and will never forget them. D-Day was a vast undertaking involving 160,000 troops and paratroopers, 11,000 aircraft, and 7,000 vessels. It marked the start of Operation Overlord which ultimately prevailed, although at great cost. The challenges of our generation can sometimes seem huge but the events of 6th June 1944 truly puts things into perspective. Beyond the sheer bravery of all those involved, there are many reasons why D-Day succeeded and a number are worth reflecting on: - Planning - Teamwork - Resilience - Problem Solving - Flexibility - Communication To compare to current day challenges is not to trivialise, but to remind ourselves of what is required to face into those challenges. We owe it to those involved to never forget. #management #future #careers #education #leadership #humanresources

**Current and future Commanders out there** The Army offers an amazing opportunity for soldiers transitioning to the civilian sector called the Career Skills Program (CSP). It helps set them up for success in their next chapter. It is a critical resource especially for junior soldiers who are embarking on this journey blind and at risk for an unsuccessful transition. Unfortunately, I am seeing a growing trend for commands to deny soldiers or intentionally create obstacles to hinder their pursuit. I would be willing to wager that those same teams plan to use the benefit themselves when they transition though. I ask that we as a force change this aspect of our military culture. When viewed through a holistic lens; this is the foundation of “taking care of our soldiers”. From an organizational perspective prior service makes up the bulk of our recruiting efforts and unsuccessful transitions continue to push the bell-curve downwards. That’s my rant for today. #careerskillsprogram #military #transitions
