"As a student, of course, this building is especially exciting," said Ph.D. in Data Science Candidate, Navya Annapareddy, during her remarks at the grand opening celebrations of the School of Data Science. "And while it might be ironic for a school to celebrate getting walls, in a field as digital and distributed as ours, this physicality is priceless. Imagine students in classrooms, working on data sets changing in real-time. Imagine their application having immediate value to themselves and society. Imagine academic labs, not working in silos, but directly with industry peers and government. Many of whom are in this room. Imagine the perspectives we can have and host here with Washington D.C as our backyard as a thought leader in data science and a form for communication." 🔙 Flashback on My Bachelor's Degree Final Project in Mathematics and Computer Science 🔙 🌐 Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: A Game Changer 🌐 Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing healthcare by enabling 🔍 more accurate diagnoses, 🎯 personalized treatments, and 📊 optimized resource management. The result? 🌟 Improved quality and accessibility of patient care for everyone. In my project, I focused on predicting diabetes using nine machine learning models and data from two sources: the well-known Pima Indians Diabetes Database ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eQsuvq4r , and a second dataset from a hospital in Frankfurt, Germany,available➡️https://lnkd.in/e6iFF5pJ . After thorough data preprocessing, I applied algorithms such as 🌳 Decision Tree, 📈 Logistic Regression, 🤖 K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Classifier (SVC), Random Forest, Bagging, Gradient Boosting Classifier, Gaussian Naive Bayes, and AdaBoost Classifier. ✴️ After evaluating the models, we found that the hospital dataset yielded excellent results with the Random Forest model. Building on this, I developed an intelligent application 🧠💻 for diabetes prediction using Streamlit, a powerful Python library for creating user-friendly, web-based data applications. Streamlit allowed me to quickly transform the machine learning model into an interactive tool, accessible to non-technical users for real-time predictions. I am proud to work on AI projects 🤖✨, as this field perfectly combines my passion for mathematics 📊 and computer science 💻, allowing me to explore innovative solutions to complex problems. In this context, I would like to thank my colleague #Ikram #Rachidi for her collaboration on the final project 🙏, my professor #Omar #Darhoche for his invaluable mentorship 👨🏫, and all my friends for their support throughout these three years of our Bachelor's studies 🎓. All the code is available at the following link : https://lnkd.in/ettDZf3t #AI #Healthcare #DiabetesPrediction #MachineLearning #Streamlit #Innovation

You all probably seen the recent news about the Google #DeepMind #AlphaProof and #AlphaGeometry 2 achieving silver medal level IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad) performance. This level of reasoning performance was enabled by a "#neurosymbolic hybrid system" overcoming some limitations of the "current AI systems [which] still struggle with solving general math problems because of limitations in reasoning skills and training data." Great to see Google trying out some some novel approaches and hybrid architectures being instead of just throwing more data and compute resource at the current model architectures. #ai #neurosymbolic #ml #llm https://lnkd.in/efSBTsJa

Thrilled to have attended the Distinguished Lecturer Seminar today, organized by the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University. A huge thank you to chris wiggins, Chief Data Scientist at The New York Times and Associate Professor at Columbia University, for his enlightening talk on "How Data Happened: A History from the Age of Reason to the Age of AI." chris delved into the profound impact of data-empowered products and automated decision systems on our society, tracing the evolution of data handling from its historical roots to its pivotal role in the current age of AI. The insights shared, especially the interdisciplinary approach combining history, technology, and practical application, were particularly compelling. The fireside chat with Usama Fayyad added a personal touch to the discourse, making the complex topics accessible and engaging. The audience Q&A session was a testament to the thought-provoking nature of Chris's presentation, sparking lively discussions among attendees. For those interested in exploring more, Chris mentioned a class co-developed with Matthew L. Jones, which resulted in a book published in 2023. Additional materials including syllabus, readings, and Python code are available — a treasure trove for anyone keen to delve deeper into the nexus of data science and society.
