Good initiative. But the first one, i am not sure data on optimum harvesting of deep sea and oceanic resources from our waters. If that is available authorites have to implement the optimum harvesting by taking appropriate measure and the management is not yet visible in this direction.
Fisheries GoI To boost fish production, seaweed farming offers a promising solution. However, before fully embracing this practice, it is crucial for the central government and all stakeholders to identify and address the existing gaps in #seaweed_farming. This includes improving infrastructure, providing adequate training to farmers, and ensuring sustainable practices. By resolving these issues, we can effectively integrate seaweed farming into our fish production strategies, leading to a more sustainable and productive future for the industry.

The FAO flagship publication, The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2024 has been released.
📈 Aquatic animal production and consumption are at all time record highs.
🌊 But, the tide is turning.
🐟 Blue Transformation is paving the way to ensure that growth is sustainable. Sustainable management of fisheries and aquaculture production systems is vitally important to feed the growing global population and safeguard the health of our oceans.
🤝 GSSI has worked in close partnership with the FAO and its member states since its inception to operationalize internationally-agreed guidelines and instruments in the seafood sector, working to bring the blue transformation to life and contributing to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Atlantic Salmon Federation (ASF) has alleged ocean plastic dumping by Newfoundland salmon farmers, citing satellite images of abandoned sea-cages and gear spanning 13 years. This follows the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association's criticism of ASF, accusing it of using US funding for campaigns that harm local aquaculture and fisheries industries. Salmon producers Cooke Inc. and Mowi have responded, emphasizing their commitment to preventing equipment from being released into the ocean and ongoing cleanup efforts. Seems to me, upon reviewing the evidence, some fakery involved here. Why would a US-funded "charity" devoted to conservation of wildlife, have anything to do with aquaculture - not within their mandate. They will continue to tell foreign jurisdictions (Canada, Greenland, others) what they can do with their natural resources? They have inserted themselves in treaties like NASCO, and hold the regulatory Crown's hand in Canada (DFO) in making policy decisions. They should mind their own business, but let it be known that since their incorporation in the late 50's Atlantics have decreased by 80% under their watch, well before aquaculture, and yet they still continue to advocate for catch and release and killing of wild salmon for pleasure. They should get out of the agrifoods business, and stop killing wild fish.
The biggest threats to wild Atlantics are essentially shifting climate and habitats, as well as illegal unreported IUU Fisheries. A highly cited paper here provides evidence for this: https://lnkd.in/eDDsui_b
Recently called out the fear-mongering charity in Radio-Canada Telejournal Acadie https://lnkd.in/ewQbG62Z en français around the 20 minute mark.
ASF and other charities, especially foreign funded really should not be sitting on regulatory panels or in government offices, and providing advice on how to regulate fisheries, in my opinion. They can advocate the same way all others do, but to have them sit within DFO, on Science panels included, makes for interesting biases.
