Cincinnati is taking a big step towards sustainability with the Metropolitan Sewer District's new facility at the Little Miami Wastewater Treatment Plant! This innovative project will transform sewage into renewable energy and fertilizer through anaerobic digestion, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and operational costs. As construction begins, residents can look forward to a greener future and improved waste management. Plus, there will be some traffic changes around the area starting December 16, 2024, but access will remain open via Wilmer Road. Harnessing the power of poo… no really! 💩 We’re transforming waste into warmth with a groundbreaking project in partnership with Severn Trent and HORIBA MIRA Thanks to funding from the Ofwat Innovation Fund, we’re developing a system to capture waste heat from sewers and use it to heat homes and businesses, cutting bills and reducing carbon emissions. With UK water companies treating 11 billion litres of wastewater daily, there’s a potential to unlock around 400 TWh of renewable heat—enough to warm 33 million homes! Our project will debut the UK’s first in-sewer wastewater heat recovery system at Horiba MIRA’s technology park in Warwickshire. This testbed will help shape a more sustainable utilities sector, expanding these networks across England and Wales. This cutting-edge facility converts 90,000 tons of non-recyclable waste, wood waste, and SRF into 300,000 MWh of renewable energy annually, enough to heat 24,000 homes and support local manufacturers. By reducing landfill use and avoiding 50,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, BIOSYNERGY aligns with France's Energy Transition for Green Growth Act and its 2050 carbon neutrality target. The SRF fuel is prepared locally at SUEZ’s TriNergy site in Rogerville, exemplifying circular economy principles. “This flagship project showcases how we can create value from waste for the benefit of the region and its people,” said Sabrina Soussan, CEO of SUEZ. Vauban Infrastructure Partners echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of public-private cooperation in advancing sustainability initiatives. Envirogen has been awarded a £1m+ contract by Fortum Glasgow Limited to demineralise water for the boilers at its new South Clyde Energy Centre (SCEC) in Glasgow. This #EnergyFromWaste sector project will be achieved by using two of Envirogen’s compact Eco MultiPro units, complemented by pre-treatment and polishing vessels. The contract will provide the ultrapure water quality needed to generate 45 megawatts electric (Mwe) of lower carbon electricity from residual, non-recyclable household waste; enough to power the equivalent of around 70,000 homes every year.
